The first pic looks pretty too but 12 pins (!) and it still doesn't hold... wow
    Thank you!
And the first one not holding was due to my ineptitude I'm sure (not the style itself). Instead of doing a cinnabun I tried to do the bun more like a flower where you roll it up from the bottom of the braid (so the tail of the braid is in the center of the bun). It was just not working for me, lol.

Gave this a shot a few days ago:

At first I tried a vortex bun with the tails, but the necessity of bringing the braids up to the center of the head to start it made the bottom part of the bun look a little weird and lumpy. So instead, I pinned loops of braid inside the outlines made by the frenched sections. There was a little bit of the center of my head that the braids didn't cover, so on the flower pin went. Got a lot of compliments for this one.

Thanks, guys : D I had never done "French" rope braids before, so I'm glad they turned out reasonably even.

    It's gorgeous!

    You guys look great!

Well this was a challenge... I've never done dutch rope braids before and I'm happy with the first try. The rope twists didn't end up being symmetrical on both sides, but I'm still going to wear this today. I also wrapped both braids into one braid before bunning, so I don't think it has the same rose bun effect. I did this for stability since I wanted to use one fork instead of pins. I used a 5" Quattro two prong fork, and for extra stability, two 3" copper pins along the top.
