My silvers look and feel more wiry when they are new and short. The longer ones seem to have the same texture as the dark hairs. So far.
That is such a good idea, Idun! Yes, something nice and moisturizing. I don't know if you've heard of the Garnier Fructis Hairfood masks but they are silicone & paraben free and can be used for 3 things, deep conditioning, conditioning or as a leave-in. They are *so* nice!

Thank you for the great tip, lapushka! I will definitely check it out. From googling I learned it’s not even that expensive. Bonus. Which one is your favourite?

I have, so far, 2 favorites. I love the banana one, but the papaya one ranks a liiitle bit higher for me. And the scent is sublime on both! I have yet to try the macadamia one, but I took a sniff, in the jar, and it's nice too. The thing is, they get their true scent when you add warm water to the mix (so when actually washing the hair). They are the best masks to come out in a long time!

There's even a thread on these. I'll see if I can find it; will get back to you in a bit!

Other important things that popped through my mind are sun discoloration and heat damage: certain flat-irons or curlers can literally turn gray hair red, or brown, expecially if you use color-enhancing products (purple shampoo, or masks with bluish/violet pigment , etc...).
I guess that mostly falls into the benign neglect cathegory

That is most helpful! I think the masks are available locally. If not, there is the internet.

Knowing myself I probably would have started with the Macadamia, because I love nuts. Some say I am nuts ofcourse, but thatīs something else entirely. My first will be the papaya.

Iīm a certified Mistress of Benign Neglect! I havenīt used a curling iron for 20 years or so. The last time I tried to make waves in my hair I used long strips of old bedsheets. Worked better than anything! Sun damage isnīt likely to happen where I live, and with the virus going on it seems abroad trips isnīt likely to happen any time soon.

How does purple shampoos work exactly? Could I use them to tone down the red of my previously hennaed hair? I expect the white/hennaed strands to become more and more light orange as I donīt top up with more henna. Itīs already happening actually. Is the purple in purple shampoo indigo? How natural are they?

lapuska, as I posted in the Fructis Hair Food thread, I picked up two cans to try out.

I also went to the specialist store and got some msm (sulfur) powder. My intention is to mix it with oil and perhaps honey to treat my dry and sometimes irritated scalp. Worth a try. Iīm sure Iīm not the first person to think of this, so itīs probably a thread here somewhere about it.

Of course, it would cool down the orange! It's a shampoo with a small percentage of violet pigment (way less than a deposit-dye)
Most silver shampoos aren't natural, tough... I guess you can make your own by adding a bit of deposit-dye to your shampoo of choice?
Violet pigments are synthetic, generally a combination if azo dyes. A bluish violet is going to be better than a reddish purple...
Considering you'll have to target your length and ends, maybe a violet hair mask will be more useful

You’re right, a purple mask would be better. I’ll have to figure out how to make something like that. Thanks for your thoughts.

Oh I'll go take a look there! For sure.

You can't go wrong with the papaya one, IMO. If you like them... But these masks? I haven't met one person yet who absolutely hates these!
