I have researched this forum for vegan alternatives for the BBB, hoping to find something that would help disperse oils down the hair length, but there doesn't seem to be many options. I've been pretty happy with my wet brush in that it's a massive improvement compared to conventional brushes, but I still feel I lose too much hair. I even feel this way about the wide tooth comb.

Have you ever tried a bamboo brush? They distribute our natural oils and are vegan. I just quickly looked them up and they sound really nice--I might even get one myself!
You're not hijacking the thread! I guess my main question is if people who (preferably have used both a wood/bamboo pin and BBB have noticed that wood/bamboo pins do a decent job distributing oils.

A 100% BBB won't work for me, but I'd like to get away from the nylon, so if a wood brush works decently well then I'd love to make the switch. If there are any SO/NW people who use wood brush or combs that would be valuable insight too... I just don't have the time or willpower to comb through the massive thread.

I use a TT for detangling (it's currently my middle step between finger detangling and BBB) and for me it does not distribute oils in any noticeable way.

Can somebody talk my down, or something? I've grown my hair out before so I must have gone through this already, but the last couple months, it feels like my hair isn't growing at all! Like it reached between shoulder and apl, and said, 'nah'. Which makes me mad because a) I grew it to between waist and tailbone last time, so I know I can, and b) I really can't do much with it. I can't even do a simple stick-held cinnabun. My previous go-to, the lazy wrap? Not even close. I don't remember having this much trouble at this length last time; can someone just hold my hand and reassure me it's fine and I'll be going "what am I supposed to do with all this hair?" soon enough?

The tucked French braid was my friend at that length. Between shoulder and apl is always my most aggravating length so I feel you! It will pass, I promise.

Have you tried a disc bun, or double buns? That length was bad for me, too, but once you're past APL it gets better!

TheLuckyLurker, I remember when my hair wasn't long enough to do what I wanted to do, it sucked. What helped me a bit was this vid https://youtu.be/SZvXrEOfJ4w I have seen it shared around this forum so I'm sorry if you've seen it before. You might be able to do some buns as a half up and then wrap the lower hair around it. Or just the half up part. Although I think my hair was a little longer when I started doing the half up buns and wrapping, so I'm sorry if this vid doesn't help you at this stage in your journey.

I have a really annoying or maybe slightly obnoxious question for this thread but I genuinely don't know the answer.

How do you know whether your question *deserves* it's own thread? what does a new thread need to be deserving of existence lol. I do search the forum to see if I can see if my question has been answered before because I understand that newbies asking the same questions all the time might get annoying for long term members. Sometimes I just get weird curious thoughts and get impulsive about posting things. Is that bad?

To me it depends if it's likely to need lots of details from you about your hair to answer, or if it's a general question that you think might have a simple answer already and you just can't find it. Although if it's a general question about people's experiences with xyz or how they deal with xyz problem, it's probably thread-worthy too. Then again some people just don't like to start new threads and they ask on here or the random thoughts megathread anyway. I think the main thing is not to unintentionally spam the board with a new thread for every little thought or question, but if it's likely to generate discussion then a new thread makes sense.

Also if you were to start a thread and it turns out there exists one or more good threads on the same subject already, no problem, they can always be merged if appropriate
Length goal well and truly met, now just seeing how it grows ...

MusicalSpoons thanks very much for answering. I think I just wanted to make sure I wasn't breaking some kind of forum etiquette unwritten rules because I'm not used to this kind of space. But that all sounds pretty straightforward. I like that this thread exists for this purpose.

Hi guys, I want to do a crown braid around my head but how do I safely secure it? I heard bobby pins damage hair, so I'm at a loss on how to secure it. Anybody got an idea?

I interlock either sturdy bobby pins or wavy Amish pins, never any damage.
