Do pigtail braids count as a protective style? They definitely help me to avoid knots and tangles
Yes!
No!
I use a mulberry silk cap it has a adjustable tie that is ment for dreadlocks and put my hair in it loose it tends to pile on the bottom of the cap but I like it. I also have a silk pillow case just incase it moves. I don't Really braid or brush my hair as it's curly.

I have to wear mine in a braid, I'm a very restless sleeper, it would be a mess to let it loose! It also helps prevent tangles and some breakage. I also like to, while doing the braid, just apply a tiny bit of argan oil in it, or after it's done, it's like a serum and in the morning it's all absorbed
I put mine in a side braid every night and wrap my head in a silk scarf to protect the sides. Otherwise I get a lot of broken ends on the sides, even with a satin pillowcase. If I leave it loose I end up lying on it, and then it pulls when I try to turn over in my sleep and is a real mess in the morning.
Now that my hair is long enough (APL) I do a high and loose bun on the top of my head. It's more comfortable that anything I tried previously, and for sure it prevents tangles.
My hair needs to be washed almost every night so I usually sleep with it down and wet/damp (bad, I know) but on the nights I don't wash I always make sure to braid it! Usually either just a three strand braid or side braid, sometimes a french or a dutch if I want pretty braid waves.

Does throwing your hair above your head and over a pillow count as a protective hairstyle?
When its long I bun it on top of my head, I have to otherwise I get wrapped in it during the night.
Grow grow grow, where it stops no body knows.
