Mine really depends on the lighting. In dim/indoor light, it's not really shiny unless I use the flash, but it's very shiny/reflective outdoors.

I have loads of type 2 and 3, baby fine, low porosity, all the hair colours hair that's got multi-faceted shine, with silver sparklies thrown in for good measure. Product overload can dull it, or waxy sebum, but left practically naked (say, after a clarifying wash with no conditioner), it has a silky, satiny sheen away from direct light, and multi-level vibrancy in sunlight.

I think most type 1 people are naturallly shiny, but I did know a girl in high school with straight, matte hair.
It was always really interesting to me, it gave it a really soft look.

My hair is naturally dull unless I color it black, then it appears shiny. I guess I would count that as the use of a product though.

Naturally, I suppose it may have a bit of sheen? But not really. I think it is rather dull (and I voted such in the poll).

Ooh that's interesting because I also thought most type 1 people had shiny hair. I imagine it would've been very pretty to look at. I'm a type 1 and definitely shiny. I actually got a compliment on valentine's day from a coworker about how shiny my hair was haha.

Do you think that shininess might be more of a product of individual strand thickness? It would make some sense that a finer strand would have less light bounce off of it... right?
I did think it might also be to do with strand thickness, but kind of the opposite - over time I've seen more people with coarse hair mention not having shiny hair. Maybe it's to do with porosity, but:

On this thread (thanks for the reminder bgd!) it was mentioned that dyed hair is often shiny, contradicting the theory of higher porosity being less shiny.

    I dunno

    I dunno
Well, I use deposit only dyes which could in theory lower my porosity, while lifting the hair and not following with a color deposit would make hair a higher porosity.

Still, I'm pretty sure my hair is naturally low porosity without dye so.... Who knows.

My hair is 2b/F/iii and I think it's shiny. The virgin hair is, at any rate!
