Trim as I'm going, so far the amount of length lost by keeping a blunt hemline doesn't bother me as much as straggly tangly ends (fine hair here too). Though it may be a different story as I continue growing past my current BSL.
I maintained my thickness while I was growing my hair by trimming.
I waited until my hair was as long as I wanted it and thickened it by maintaining length.
CHEESE!
In the beginning I was in a rush to grow long long hair so I didn't trim until I hit my milestones. I felt satisfied enough after hitting knee that I could relax on gaining length and focus on my hemline as well.

Back again! I'm not trimming until I'm at APL, I'll pause a bit to get rid of my layers but after that I'll rush grow until I can't handle my ends anymore. I do love blunt ends but if I got near floor I'd like my ends to be fairytale that is if I don't decide to try my impossible goal of 100 inch hair buuuut I got 15+ years to figure that out!
I'm a "get where you are going and maintain person", #2 for sure. I have never really had issues with thickness luckily, I have a lot of hair so tapering has never been a huge concern for me.

I "maintain while trimming" in a very low-key sort of way; my shortest layers are far too short for me to be willing to cut off more than a wee bit once/twice a year.

Let's face it I'm a trim addict so I'm finally voting for trim as you go

I'm waiting till I get to my length then I'll maintain my ends.
I'd rather reach my goal length before maintaining. That way the growing part is done and my brain can finally relax. I also have a ton of regrowth from my ED thats steadily growing; I'd rather use my old ends to protect them. Otherwise I'm stuck in a grow - trim a bit maybe but not too much but I'd love to trim more - grow cycle. Then I'd have to decide how much to trim. But how much would actually come off? Is it even? It's too much to think about lol
No Trim 2019/20/21 . Use It Up 2019/20/21 . Daily wash w/Sulfates and Cones. Coconut oil . CL 2019-FTL 2020-KNEE 2021
I have a lot of re-growth from stress-induced shedding to grow out so trimming as I grow here. Mainly because I don't notice my wispies as much if my ends are at least tidy-ish?
I've been maintaining my TBL for the past 10+ years with yearly big chops of 10cm or so. It worked well when the main damage to my hair was the braid elastic, until I went crazy and decided to go purple (and some year before started doing BJJ) because that extra stress and damage is making me now reconsider going back to micro trimming (2/3 cm every 3 months) plus s&d to keep the damage under control. I have thin hair and the breakage tends to run up the lenghts fast.
