My hair loves being in a braid and dislikes buns (apart from braided buns). Buns are still more protective if we're talking about damage to the ends and stuff like that, but what can I do. I must respect the hair's wishes.

At this point in its life, my hair does not like brushing. In the past, I used to always brush it, like twice a day, but since starting to encourage my waves, it has not been fond of that at all. It will be interesting to see what it thinks when it's fully or mostly virgin!

I absolutely need to wash my hair three times a week or my scalp will be very unhappy with me.

I learned clarifying my heavily oiled hair with Neutrogena Anti Residue Shampoo leaves it soft and fluffy. Kinda shocked. Didn't even condition or oil after. Just air dried. Though seems like I am shedding more. Not sure if it's due to the wash or from just hanging down. Worst case would be another health related shed. Hoping that's not it.

Me too. My scalp starts to really hurt if I don't wash regularly.

Recently, I learned that my hair is sensitive to protein overload and tends to fall apart if I over-protein it.

    Surprises since joining LHC:
    1. My hair color is Bondette or Tawny or Chestnut or Butterscotch or something. I always thought it was brown ~ DARK brown, to be precise! It totally amazes me to be called Blonde! But Blondette hair changes color under different lightings, so it's actually hard to pin down WHAT color it is!
    2. My hair is Wavy, as in 2c. I thought it was straight.
    3. My hair doesn't need washing anywhere NEAR as often as I thought!
    4. If my hair looks greasy, I can just put it up in a bun, & no one's the wiser.
    5. If my hair's a mess, there's no need to spend a bunch of time detangling it right this minute. Just bun it, the way it is, and it'll look like a gorgeous, imaginative, elaborate 'do!
    6. I REALLY LIKE my hair now, much more than I ever have.
    7. Talking about hair can be an ice-breaker, a route to making new friends.
    8. Some updos are fast, easy, & so elegant! This is such an easy route to improving my social & professional life!

    Thanks, LHC!
Somebody give me a magic wand I can wave and make everybody content with his or her own hair! If that same magic wand could also end all hair discriminatory attitudes on the part of society in general... A magic wand would be so grand...

I think the most recent thing I've learned is that I was right to always insistently condition my entire head of hair--yes, scalp to ends!

(For most of the rest of you, though, "don't try this at home!" haha)

The biggest surprise for me was that my hair strands are able to form actual spiral coils if properly moisturized.

I also do root to tip!
When I use to have a pixie cut I still wanted to condition so I think I just got use to it. My hair gets super tangly without conditioner, so I like letting it all have that slick feeling.

I am another who conditions root to tip. I don't get any scalp issues and I feel like I want that little bit of protection/coating from the conditioner for absolutely all of my hair. After all, what is now the root will one day be the ends, so that's my way of protecting and caring for it from the very beginning. I may not be the most eager bunner, so I make up for it this way, maybe.

I am amazed by how long lint can remain in hair. I have been combing out lint that is much older than the hair.
