Argh I have so little left of my conditioner and shampoo but it never runs outtt D: I want to add it to my 2020-list... only two days left!!
So special that everyone's finalizing their usage for the year.
I was not surprised at the amounts for me, but I go through it quite fast. Maybe it's good that I'm only a weekly washer!
Heyyy I actually finished the conditioner today! And the rest of the shampoo will go in my "mixed left-over shampoos"-bottle that I use for washing delicates and body wash lol
The total for this year is:
USED UP ----
Sulfate free shampoos ----
[1] Olaplex No 4 250 ml - very cleansing though sufate free, hair still feels moisturised after and stays clean for a good while so I think the cleansers are still quite strong and are coupled with moisturisers/sealants. Lasted me 6 months. Not organic, but vegan and cruelty-free.
[1] L'Oréal Paris Low Shampoo Sulfate Free Shampoo 250 ml - used up as a body wash, low-poo/no-poo doesn't do much for me
[1] Shea Moisture 10-in-1 Shampoo 379 ml- finished off as a body wash (low-/no-poo doesn't do much for me)
[1] OGX Argan oil shampoo 88.7 ml - just as cleansing as SLS (the surfactant is anionic but not technically a sulfate), luxurious lather, does have silicones
[1] N.A.E Shampoo bar repair 85 g - Okay I love the idea of this! It's sufate-free, and NOT soap-based! Great for those of us who can't use soap-based products on our hair, and also gentler than e.g. LUSH's SLS-based shampoo bars. It works like a regular sulfate-free shampoo (e.g. I have to lather up twice) but since sulfate-free in general just doesn't do what I want my shampoos to do (i.e. give me more than one day of grease-free hair...) this bar shall be relegated to hand soap status
SLS shampoos --------------
[1] Aveda Shampure Nurturing Shampoo 10 ml - (contains ALS not SLS) Very low lather which was inconvenient considering it did about the same thing as any other high lather SLS shampoo. Smelled strongly of lavender essential oil. Not organic or vegan, but cruelty-free.
[1] L'Oréal Professionnel Série Expert Pure Resource Citramine 300 ml - Super foamy and super cleansing and super drying! Not organic, vegan, fair trade or anything else.
[1] Lush Jason and the argan oil shampoo bar 55 g - decent and cleansing but nothing special
[1] Cien Anti-Dandruff Shampoo For Normal to Dry Hair 300 ml - I mean.. it cleaned my hair? Main surfactant was SLES. Had both piroctone olamine and salicylic acid.
[1] Mane n' Tail Deep Moisturizing Shampoo 60 ml - SLES, very cleansing but had dimethicone >> enough slip to divide the hair into two parts in shower!
[1] ICA Hjärtat Mild Mjällshampo 250 ml - dandruff shampoo with piroctone olamine, used as a hair growth experiment. No significant extra growth but cleaned the hair well!
[1] John Frieda Go Blonder shampoo 250 ml - SLS + SLES, cleansing but still had some slip
Conditioners -----------------
[1] Barnängen Nectar Conditioner 200 ml - repurchase. Light, proteiny (amino acids and hydrolysed keratin), and silicone-free. Not organic, vegan, or cruelty-free.
[1] Dove Intensive Repair Daily Treatment Conditioner 180 ml - suuuper coney, but no ethical certifications.
[1] Shea Moisture Superfruit 10-in-1 Conditioner 379 ml - silicone free and didn't do much for my hair, no matter if I used a regular amount or slathered on A LOT. Fair trade.
[1] Herbal Essenses Pure Argan oil conditioner 200 ml - has one cone in it but it does have a lot of slip! Says "90% natural" on the bottle which I hope is better than nothing... It doesn't have any real ethical certifications though.
[1] Herbal Essenses Pure Coconut milk conditioner 200 ml - not as slippy as the argan one, unfortunately. Tangly hair galore.
[1] Lush Sugar Daddy-O conditioner bar 60 g - not very moisturising even melted down
[1] Mane n' Tail Deep Moisturizing Conditioner 60 ml - dimethicone, protein, quite detangling but my ends were a bit dry and not quite detangling enough, in the end
[1] OGX Argan Oil Conditioner 385 ml - quite coney but not massively, used in conjunction with the shampoo it made my hair very silky but the lengths were a bit dry, I needed a second conditioner but that is typical for my hair. For the hair above APL/BSL-ish it was really good.
[1] Rusta Almond Conditioner 1 litre - really heavy for a silicone free conditioner!! Not enough for me but great as a first conditioner used in conjunction with a second silicone conditioner!
[1] ICA Hjärtat Organic Conditioner 250 ml - This is terrible, my hair felt the same as if I only had used shampoo, so a real waste of money unfortunately. I'd have loved an organic, cheap, and easily available (it's sold at a grocery store) conditioner but alas, it was not meant to be...
[1] Tresemmé Moisture rich conditioner 500 ml - so much silicones coney heaven!! My hair detangles in under 10 minutes!!
[1] John Frieda Go blonder conditioner 250 ml - slightly coney but still didn't give massive slip even when I loaded on A LOT
Treatments -------------------
[1] Garnier Fructis Hair Food Banana Mask 390 ml - quite good for a cone-free deep treatment! Smells very banana. "98% natural" but no real certifications.
[1] Shea Moisture Strengthen and Restore Treatment Masque 354 ml - super protein-y and made my hair verrry happy, though the consistency was quite... solid-ish? And left beige stains all over my shower. Fair trade.
[1] Cassia Obovata - chucked this, it didn't agree with my hair.
[2] Urtekram Coconut oil (organic) 425ml
[1] Olaplex No 3 100ml - this just doesn't do anything for me, whether I use it per instructions with my regular S+C, if I use it per instructions with Olaplex no 4 and no 5, if I use it per the hairdresser's instructions and leave it overnight, if I use it as a pre-poo
Leave-ins ---------------------
[1] Lush Pearl massage bar (waxes and oils) - I chucked this, it was several years old at this point.
[1] CCS Aloe vera gel 200 ml - Doesn't do anything but make my hair tangle up more easily :/ repurposed as overnight hand masque for my eczema prone hands
Styling products -------------
[1] Cien Professional Heat Protection Spray - threw away, found better products
[1] Lee Stafford Coco Loco Blow & Go Genius Lotion - too old
[1] Shea Moisture Smooth & Tame blow out créme 177 ml - too heavy for my low porosity hair, doesn't absorb into the hair and lays on the surface like oil if I use enough to actually get the heat protection :/ - I donated it.
[1] Dialon Baby powder 100 g - Worked pretty well as a dry shampoo but the application was terribly inconvenient and patchy.
Now, I just have to add up the numbers, I'm so curious!!
ETA: I did a spreadsheet lol. I will be doing an LHC blog post on it, haha!
Anyway, the resulting damage of 2020 is:
Shampoo - 2.2777 litres
Conditioner - 4.508 litres
Coconut oil - 0.85 litres
Leave-ins and stylers - none, I did throw away a couple though that got old and went off
Finalising my results:
400ml Macadamia Oil conditioner x2
390ml Garnier Hair Food Coconut mask
400ml Superdrug Extracts Raspberry and Macadamia conditioner
250ml Faith in Nature BB Rose conditioner
360ml Garnier Ultimate Blends Argan and cranberry conditioner
265ml Dr Organic Aloe Vera shampoo
265ml Dr Organic Tea Tree shampoo
265ml Dr Organic Rose shampoo (95%+ on my head, but I became sensitive to it. The rest used for armpits and feet)
50ml Hazelnut oil
-------
Total of 10 products
Conditioner: 2200ml (6)
Shampoo: 795ml (3)
Oil: 50ml (1)
Washed lengths less often this year, but seemed to need more shampoo. This wasn't exactly a huge dent in my stash, so it's good that I bought a lot less this year too!
[Last year's was 14 products:
660ml shampoo (2)
3000ml conditioner (9)
150ml oil (3)]
Length goal well and truly met, now just seeing how it grows ...
Picky scalp but easygoing hair, thank goodness
I didn't end up washing my hair anymore before midnight, so here are my stats for the year.
14 824 ml of conditioner, of which 7210 ml was second conditioner. (Down from 25 721 ml in 2019.)
4650 ml of shampoo. (Up from 4200 ml in 2019.)
It is difficult to explain the remarkable reduction in conditioner usage since I actually washed way more often in 2020 than I did in 2019, as I allowed myself to wash daily if I felt like it, and I did do that quite a lot indeed. About half the year, I also triple conditioned my hair instead of double conditioning! I didn't have meaningfully less bleached hair, but I did have a big shed in late 2019, so I had less thickness to condition. However, my hair was longer in 2020 than in 2019.

Last day of the year I managed to squeeze the last drops of my Kevin Murphy conditioner out of its tub and open a new one . I think I'll turn this list into a blog entry and add all products that were open at the start of 2021 as well. I don't have a huge stash, but this thread definitely helped to curb my impulsive shopping tendencies. It's far too tempting to try all the different products that get mentioned in various threads and I don't have the storage capacity (or the money) to buy more than I can use in a year.
