If you wash your hair after application, the smell should be gone.
Hi everyone. I used to henna my hair in the past and it was no issue because I wasn't around a lot of people.
Now, I started working this year and I'm feeling self-conscious that people might be bottered by the smell of henna.
I wanted to ask if the smell is noticeable, especially while it's still oxidizing.
I really want to dye my hair with henna again.
If you wash your hair after application, the smell should be gone.
No-one ever noticed mine (the colour or the smell).
I did apologise to someone at a gig once because I’d hennaed that day and she was standing so close behind me, her nose was practically in my hair, I felt that I should explain She didn’t complain, I was just conscious of it. Other than that kind of proximity, people don’t tend to notice.
I really don't know if other notice, no one never said anything, but I can feel the smell at least a week afterwards, with several washes...
I have heard the mermaids singing... and I do think that they will sing to me...

Thank you for your help everyone. I'm going to go for it.
I'm glad to be back at the LHC.
Only my SO is ever close enough to me to smell the henna. And I mask it with nice smelling oils like NightBloomings.

Back when I used to just rinse out my henna with water my hair would retain a little of the henna smell until the next wash - ever since I started rinsing it out with conditioner there's been virtually no henna scent left at all. Any lingering henna seems to be either removed or masked by the scent of the conditioner.

When hair is completely dry, the aroma has a very limited "sillage": you canīt really smell it unless you bury your nose into the hair itself. Add a bit of perfume or body mist, and you should be extra fine. IME, wet hair always smells a bit of henna.
If you like ginger orcardamom and use oil your hair, you can dissolve some drops of essential oil in your oil of preference, and use it on your hair. Your hair will smell very nice.
In fact, these two spices are particularly renewed for counteracting henna smell.
I also used to brew chamomile and cardamom pods and use the tea to rinse my hair, and add spoonfuls of powdered rose petals to my henna.

I think it'll be okay! When I freshly henna the scent is mostly noticeable only when my hair is wet. The first few times I wash it after henndigo I'm like whoa, when will the smell go away. Once it dries it isn't too bad. And that's with indigo which is not nose friendly lol! Henna isn't an inherently displeasing smell, especially if you use scented oils or conditioner on top of it. Worst case scenario, you smell just a little bit henna-y for a couple of days. Considering how bad some people smell from poor hygiene, I think it'll be just fine
The only time anyone ever commented on my hair smelling like henna was when I'd just hennaed the night before, came to work with wet hair, and turned my space heater on.
My cubemate went "What smells like hay???"
