Aggressive Ads

Just curious... the forum went from having two banner ads + a little square per page to having super aggressive ads (that drop down from the top of the screen and embed within user posts). Did something change recently?

I try to not use ad blockers and click on ads occasionally to help the site, but I might have to make the switch.

I've noticed this too; I had problems with the ad blockers I tried on my tablet so have just left it to Chrome to prevent pop-ups, but yep they feel like they're getting more intrusive. I've been getting massive ads at the bottom of the page too, which isn't as intrusive but feels like I'm being shouted at

Whew i thought it was just me! I noticed it on my mobile and freaked out - I'm very smart at computers but completely braindead when it comes to mobile devices, and yes I know they are a type of computer - so I got on my desktop and saw the same behavior so figured my smartphone wasn't infected or something weird. Yeah, the ads follow you down as you scroll and they are in between posts now as well - incredibly aggressive.

Even stranger, at least on mobile the ads toward the very bottom link to internal threads?

huh... Weird I'm only getting a small banner on top, another on bottom and a single square on the side.

I visit on my laptop through Chrome. I don't know if that helps anyone...

Turn off Javascript in your browser. Most of LHC will work without it.

You will need to turn on Javascript for sites that require it.

Get an ad blocker for your browser; it is the best thing ever!

I get 0 ads. Has always been like that.

The ads at the bottom seem to be new. At least I never noticed them until they appeared at the end of blog posts because you have to scroll past them to see the comments. We have had side bar ads within posts for a few years now (usually the first post per page - which screws with images and videos on smaller screens - and then here and there on the side of other posts down the page, but just now doing a quick look I only see them in the first posts). Every now and then some advertiser manages to get the pop up or hovering ads past what I'm guessing are site wide preferences against them. I suspect that is a Google ads issue and Google will address it. The few times I've seen that (none recently) I've reported them to Google as obnoxious. There is a little triangle in the top right corner of all ads that can be used to report them or at least tell Google you don't want to be followed around the internet by that particular advertiser.
