I use the same oils I buy for my face, which means stuff that's cheap, not too heavy, and non-comedogenic.
I loooove grapeseed oil. It's super light and it actually feels like it absorbs into my skin, so I trust it on my hair.
I just recently got mango butter, so far so good. I was using shea butter before, which was very rich, mango butter is much lighter (and less likely to cause breakouts). I've melted it with a little bit of the grapeseed oil and jojoba oil. I've used it on my hair once, I really liked the results.

I just use coconut oil for everything. It's the only one that's actually light enough to absorb into my hair and skin. I use it for makeup removal(rub the rest on my hair before washing), moisturizing my face + body, leave in and sometimes add a bit extra to braids. And it's cheap and sold everywhere!

    Other.

Anything goes, when it comes to ROO - I'm currently using up meh-quality plant oils. When I started ROO I used baby oil (mineral oil) but plant oils are more forgiving, plus whatever ones I'm using up needed to be used up before the baby oil.

Dry oiling, well. Sweet almond was my hair's first favourite. Then I was given a complimentary small bottle of argan with an online order, and my hair would happily drink it up. I don't tend to dry oil between washes, usually only if I really need some kind of slip for detangling or a light sheen of oil on a braid on the rare occasion I wear one. My main oiling is pre-poo with babassu oil, a heavy oiling overnight then my hair feels divine after washing (I still do ROO even with the heavy pre-poo oiling.) To me it's kind of like coconut oil but without the crunchies

Tl;dr: any plant oil, sweet almond, argan, and babassu.

Edit: I forgot grapeseed. That's often what I put on a braid because it doesn't really sink in very quickly on my hair, so I feel like it protects it a bit longer.
Length goal well and truly met, now just seeing how it grows ...

I have never tried putting oil on my hair. How would I know if I needed to?

I voted other because I mainly use "conventional" hair oils/serums or mineral oil (before every wash for easy detangling and after washing session to seal moisture). Occasionally deep condition with virgin coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil, about twice a month. I like trying new oils/Hair serums/oils.

I use a mix of different oils including Almond oil, castor oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, emu oil, amla oil, jojoba oil, vitamin E olive oil. That's actually a premium oil I use. Plus anti dandruff lemon oil.

I oil with Luster Pink Oil Moisturizing Lotion, vitamin E oil, coconut oil, tea-tree oil, carrot oil, and all kinds of other oils I can get my hands on. There are soooo many choices out there!
