Default Looking to Delete Blog Posts

I have permission to update my various blog posts, but when I try to delete one, I get an error message saying that I don't have permission to do so. It's my own blog, and I am logged in, so...? Does anyone know what gives?

This *may* explain it: https://forums.longhaircommunity.com...ad.php?t=64136 (from 2011, I can't directly quote the post for some reason)

    Note About Blog Deletions

Due to lack of available mod time, we are no longer able to continue hard deleting blog posts on request . It takes up too many resources from the moderating time of our volunteer team, which we need to spend on higher priority tasks.

Soft deleting blog posts on your own, so that they are hidden for everybody else except you and the mods, is still possible.
Yet in the forum rules it says members may edit and delete blog posts at will, so I'm a bit confused

I get it. They have "updated" it due to current "overload", MusicalSpoons.

I understand the post, but it seems contradictory to the rules; maybe the rules need to specify what type of deletion - surely there's a world of difference between making it private and actually being able to get rid of it. The rules, even if outdated, don't mention having to contact a moderator to delete blog posts at all.

Maybe it's really no big deal, and someone needs to just update the rules. No problem, right?

Indeed. Was just explaining why I was confused - and thinking about it, possibly it also explains why the original problem arose in the first place

There are two kinds of delete: soft delete and hard delete. If you soft delete something, that thing remains on the server but hidden to all but mods. If you hard delete something it is gone, wiped from the server completely (though I expect there is some sort of record of the events of creation/edit/delete). Members can edit their blogs to their hearts content (unlike the forums where edits result in infraction points) - blogs are yours.

Only moderators and up have permission for hard deletes of any kind. You can soft delete your blog post and no other members will know that it ever existed, but you and moderators will see a grayed out entry with the note that the entry has been soft deleted.

Thank you for explaining, neko_kawaii. Some things I had no clue about, about these soft deletes! You learn every time!

That makes sense (still not what I'd have thought of by 'deleting' but that's beside the point) - thanks for explaining that. I fear we may have accidentally derailed the thread then because that doesn't sound like it explains the OP's issue!

I just tested member blog deletion with one of the moderators test accounts with the same permission level as OP and had no issues. I double checked user permissions and saw no issues. Without any other clues I don't know what the issue is. Sorry!
