    Default Strand testing Nightblooming henna

So I ordered the fire genasi and kitsune fox red henna blend samples from Nightblooming/Nightshade and I thought I might document the test.
My strand samples are 6 slices of a hair rat I had made of my own shed hair. There will be a control, one for each color, a mix of both, and one of each on lightened hair. These sample hairballs have been shampooed/clarified but not conditioned or oiled.
I prepped the henna samples with steamy(not boiling) distilled water as per instructions to a pancake batter consistency. I then hijacked my husband's sous vide machine to water bath them at 100 for 1 hours.
Then i applied henna to my test balls and raised the temperature to 120, leaving it to dye release for 3 hours.

The colors imediately after rinse. At 12 we have the control, at 3 the kitsune, at 4 kitsune on lightened hair, at 7 is fire genasi on lightened hair, at 9 is fire genasi normal, center is fire genasi + kitsune on normal.

Check back in 3 days for final colors.

I can't wait to see your results! I have to say your use of the labels as marking stickers on the Tupperware was brilliant, and I've never seen anyone use a sous vide machine for henna before. Super-clever!

The labels were actually my husband's idea, he decided to help after I absconded with his machine.

Lol I don't even know what that machine is but it looks really cool.

How can I control my life when I can't even control my hair!

    Oh you posted more pictures

Remind me what color you're after as an ideal result?

NOT burgundy lol. I'm most interested in the strengthening properties of henna, but a long time ago I had copper red hair and I've been tempted to go back. Right now I'm exploring what colors my hair wants to be with henna. if there is a shade at the end of testing that really appeals to me (so far fire genasi is winning) than I will probably move forword with full head application.

Its a sous vide. All the men in my husband's family cook, and my father-in-law is a gadget snob lol. He saw our "primative" kitchen and sent us this to try and bring us into the 21st century. This is the first time its been out of the box, and I have to admit, the precise temperature control is pretty cool.
(I love my in-laws, they just have some funny quirks)

In that case I would go with the Genasi (normal or fire, your choice) if you're not really interested in that much color difference. It's subtle, but still there!
WCC method (washing) --- Rinse-out oil (MO) --- LOC/LCO method (styling)

Very subtle. Here is a picture of my braid tassle next to the samples. As my hair naturally lightens it warms at the ends.

My ideal color would be something lile a chestnut/sorrel colored horse, but my hair is rather dark for that.

Ohh exciting, SwanFeathers! I think that the 9:00 one gives a really vibrant yet natural-looking boost to your natural shade (which is also gorgeous). Have you taken these out into direct sunlight yet?
