Re: Very fine thin hair from pixie - should I even try?
I'm 46. I have FTL (fingertip length) hair. My hair is F (fine) but I do have lots of it.
There is a fine, thin thread here, and there are *plenty* of people who have long fine hair. Check that thread out sometime!
There is no reason why you should cut your hair every 8 weeks. If you want to grow it, rather cut every 4 months or so, like 3 to 4 times a year max. More is really not necessary, especially not if you are starting from such a "fresh" cut.
If you go to a photohosting site, say "imgur", to name one then you can post a picture and attach it here (use the BBcode). Just make sure that if you make an imgur account that you set your album to private (or you will be public with your pictures there for people to comment on).
Welcome to the forum!
Happy growing!

Re: Very fine thin hair from pixie - should I even try?
Thank you so much for your replies! I made a shared folder in my google photos account which includes the 2 previously mentioned photos (current length from pixie with bottom of ruler showing where it could be by my 40th birthday in 2.5 years as well as a picture of what my hair looked like longer 5 years ago in 2014 for an idea of the texture - hoping it’s not thinner now after having more kids and years of birth control pills!) https://photos.app.goo.gl/GcQ2jRqBS8xyr5Bf9
My apologies for the typos in my original post - my kids were pulling me out of the door

Welcome! You're never too old! There are fun and edgy ways to style your hair while getting through those awkward stages. Double Dutch braids, accent braids, french twists, half ups and many more.

Agree it doesnt look thin just fine and would certainly look great long. Just takes being a little more careful handling fine hair. Why not grow long? Worse case you cut but I love long hair at any age. Go for it!

Your hair looks very pretty, go for it! I have regular trims, half an inch every 3 months seems to work pretty well.
I used to cut more often though. When I started growing my hair from a pixie I carried on with trims every 6 weeks, just 1/8 inch or less, while I grew it out to a bob. I still saw good growth that way and it kept a good shape. I really don’t enjoy the short bob to shoulder stage though so I started going longer between trims....I found it so hard after years of trims every 6 weeks!

Re: Very fine thin hair from pixie - should I even try?
Go for it! One of my friends, who was in her mid-40's, grew her hair out past tailbone length and it was average thickness so age doesn't matter
My hair is thin as well and I can say from the last time I grew it out you really have to handle it carefully or it will be prone to breakage. Lots of up-dos to prevent daily mechanical damage seems to be one of the big keys for fine hair, which is what I'm going for this time around.
