Lightening henna+cassia hair
I hope it's ok to post this question it in this forum. I was a bit unsure if I should instead post in in the Henna/herbal forum. Mods, if you think it should be moved there, let me know or just move it for me if you prefer.
So, I've henna+cassia-ed my hair in almost two decades now. Most recently I've been using a rather weak henna mixed with cassia about 50% 50%, before that I used one third henna and two thirds cassia, approximately.
Well, I have to say that I've now finally grew tired of the color and I'm craving change, or maybe I'm just experiencing a mid-life crisis. Well, whatever the reason, I decided to lighten my hair as I'd like to eventually have blonde highlights in my naturally dark blonde hair.
Any ideas or suggestions? I'm totally fine using conventional products as well as natural ones, but I'm really more interested in faster results rather than wait months before something starts working.
Tonight I used John Frieda's Go Blonder conditioner (forgot to buy the shampoo) and afterwards saturated my hair in the Go Blonder spray after which I blow dried and went over the top layer of my hair with a straightener (it's among recommendations on the spray bottle).
I think I see mild lightening, but it may just be wishful thinking. My husband claims it is lighter, but I think he just doesn't want me to do anything more drastic than this as he loves red hair on me
The next step I thought would be L'Oreal's Casting Creme Gloss Blonde 1010, but I'm very apprehensive about using that. The main reason being that I already have about an inch of virgin hair at the scalp as I hennaed my hair about 1-2 months ago and while that part would most likely get bleached with no issue, how would that look in combination with the hennaed hair. I was thinking about perhaps only dying the hennaed hair, but how do I make 100% sure it's only the hennaed hair ... that would be nearly impossible to do on my own, right?
Am I insane?
Any thoughts and suggestions on any of the above or beyond? I'd love to hear from anyone that has already tried dying/lightening/lifting henna + cassia. Anyone else can naturally also chime in.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Lightening henna+cassia hair
Henna is nearly impossible to remove short of bleaching and even then, it takes multiple rounds to get it all. Some people have had luck using color oops but it didn't work for me at all.
Be careful dying over henna, always do a strand test. Blonde over henna can go quite dark. I recently used medium blond over my henna and it went dark brown.
I can tell you that a blond dye will not turn your hair blond. Another option is sun in hair lighter, it takes multiple applications but it's fairly successful if you are just looking to lighten a little.
