It makes sense when you consider that it's liquid that carries the released dye. The mud itself is just the thing it's being released from

I've switched to hennaing on dry hair and using a runnier mix because of exactly this.

Oh yea for sure one wants to do this on dry hair damp or wet hair will just be an even bigger disaster.

How can I control my life when I can't even control my hair!

I always apply my super liquid henna on dry dirty hair

I thought it was laziness, from this point on I'm calling it intuition

Thank you all for sharing your experiences and suggestions! I think I’ll grt a fluffy hair band and do the runny mixture from now on.

Chiming in a bit late, but I can confirm very similar experience - after years of thick overnight applications, I've switched entirely to thin-mix 1-2 hour applications

I've gotten around the drippy issue by making up my mix to roughly the consistency of housepaint. It's loose enough to spread easily, but thick enough to not drip. I pop a clear plastic shower cap overtop and wrap a length of jersey fabric overtop of that - that's enough to keep it contained.

It feels kind of liberating to streamline a method, doesn't it?
▪daily washing▪monthly trimming▪top-down detangling▪sulfate shampoo down to the ends▪coney conditioner up to the roots▪henna and hibiscus▪worn down and loose on the regular▪

I used to make my henna the consistency of smooth mash.

I do mine on damp hair. It's just easier to distribute.
