My scalp apparently isn't a fan of sulfates, so I don't use them anymore except for clarifying. And I stopped using silicones at the same time because I wanted to see if I could get my waves to stick more without them, plus without having sulfates to clean them out, I'd probably end up with a lot of buildup!

I went sulfate- and silicone-free 8 years ago, and it was the best thing that ever happened to my hair.

I use silicone-y styling products maybe once every two years for an extra special occasion, and I'm contemplating getting a sulfate shampoo for an occasional deep cleansing, but for now I'm completely free of both things.

I only use vegan and cruelty free products and they are all sulfate- and silicone-free anyway.

I use both sulfates & silicones regularly. No shame!

    I just do.

I have SD (seborrheic dermatitis) and so harsh sulfates keep my SD at bay. Now, when I get a bout of it, I need to use Nizoral 2% immediately and until it's clear, but so far, the last time I used it was last year, and it had been *years*.

I didn't know that. You think the formula is the same in every country, and from the 1% to the 2%? Interesting. I think I'd have to check the bottle, but my dad keeps it, because he uses it more often than me. I'm in Belgium. We keep a bottle between us, because since I went to using harsh cleansers, I can practically do without it.

ETA skip that, I thought you said silicone instead of sulfate! I would HOPE Nizoral has a sulfate, darn it. I need the harsher cleansers to get my scalp clear. I do think they have made the formula milder over the years, because the insert now says to leave on for 5 to 10 min. instead of max. 5!

When I lived in area with soft water I used very mild shampoos without sulfates, but now with hard water I feel like my hair is not as clean with the same shampoo, so I use moisturizing shampoos with sulfates. I guess when I move back I will stop using sulfates once again.
    I don't use silicones anymore.

I wish this would be a multi choice poll, I can't vote now.

I use sulphates regularly (but not exclusively) and silicones occasionally.

Yes, sulphate! But it’s near the bottom. I read the bottle for the challenge—it is really a smart product overall.
