My hair needs to be trimmed regularly. Otherwise the ends get absolutely destroyed, and splits travel upward. I've found splits open as far as 4-5 inches from the bottom.
Regular trims are always best.
Only trim when needed.
I'm trying to trim as little as possible!
I'm still trying to figure it out!
I selected "Trim when needed". I personally micro trim every month, but thats what I think my hair needed this year.
I really wanted to even my hem line and I really wanted to thicken my length up. I think everyone is different and its really dependent on how "damaged" your own hair.
And how well your hair responds to the elements. Mine splits easy and I get bent ends a lot. I am also trying to grow out chemical color.
So trim every month it is for me, I think it also really matters how much you are trimming off each time too.

Just keep growing imo.
I want my hair always to look neatly groomed with a blunt hemline so I microtrim every 6 weeks. I still get 6-8" of growth every year.
I voted for regular trims. For me, regular trims might be every couple of months, or twice a year, or even once a year, depending on whether I want thicker ends or more length, but trimming does keep my ends from getting too "grabby". They are getting grabby now, but it's almost a year since my last trim at the end of last December. Looking forward to a trim in two weeks

Thanks everyone for there answers! It is helpful to see what everyone does.
I've joined the No Trim Challenge for 2018 so I will keep up with that. And hopefully see much longer hair next year.
I feel like my hair is healthy enough to not need trimming that often. But I guess I worry that since I do see splits it will hamper my progress. I suppose as long as I don't see my hair breaking off it will be fine. I will just baby it until it gets to my goal and then I will probably trim more frequently to get blunt ends.

I've been doing micro-trims since I'm trying to grow out all the chemical dyed bits I have left in my hair. I joined the NTC18 as well, so I won't be doing trims starting in January. If I see splits, I might snip them a little, but I don't get them often so I just play it by ear most of the time.
Right now I'm just growing my hair without trimming, because I want to gain as much length as possible! But if my ends started to look bad I would definitely trim!
For me , I'm keeping on growing and s& d as needed.
I'm not waist length but that's what I do .
