I only trim out damage. My hair doesnt split much as long as I don't use heat, bleach etc. Now that I'm bleach free since 2017, I probably wont need a trim a while. Last time I didnt trim my hair for 5 years and it was fine![]()
Regular trims are always best.
Only trim when needed.
I'm trying to trim as little as possible!
I'm still trying to figure it out!
I used to trim every time my ends felt dry which happened often as I was growing out dye/bleach. This resulted in me never growing past MBL. Now that my hair is 100% virgin again, I'm trying to not trim and grow my hair for once in my life!

I've been attempting to seriously grow my hair out from a short bob (cheek length) for the last two years, with 1/2" - 3/4" trims 2-3 times a year.
My hair is very fine and has always grown very slowly but I'm only at SL and had expected my hair to be much longer by now.
I'm starting to think that the regular trims weren't all that necessary at promoting growth as I had previously thought. To be fair, though, I only recently discovered LHC.
I'll be giving the no trim for the first half of 2020 a try! Hopefully my hemline doesn't get too scraggly by the end of it...
You can always self-trim. Feye's self-trimming method is a great way to go about it. I'm guessing to comfortably do it all by yourself you will probably need to be APL or so. But here's the instructions, should you get someone to help you with it.

I'm guessing your hairdresser is cutting way more than you think.
I only trim when needed.
The last time I trimmed was end of May 2016. I needed the cut. As my hair was very dry and full of splits. Since then I had been doing s&d. I recently noticed that splits are much less almost too few to see.
Growing hair takes years, care and patience. Frequent trims will slow the process. Since my hair is in good condition I prefer to not trim.
I started with a straight hemline after three and a half years it has changed. Every hair on the head does not grow at the same time as each other single strand so my hemline wont be straight.
Maybe when I reach classic I might maintain then again maybe not.

I voted 'Trim as little as possible' as I found my hair didn't really require it too much when I last had long hair.
I'm trying to grow it out of the awkward phase right now past chin length so it feels better to leave it to get on with growing and help me stop obsessing over it too much. I'd probably considering getting a trim every six months to even it out a little though where it's growing at different lengths with the layers I have.
I'm a serial trim avoider. If I can help it, I won't trim.
I made the dumb mistake of dying my natural ginger-blonde hair straight black in 2019 just "to see." Getting rid of the black caused major damage and a big chop. But because of that one big chop, my ends have been in perfect shape for over 9 months and nothing is changing except the hair is getting longer so I'm sticking without trims until at least next year.
When I'm in my growing phase, I tend to go months without even thinking about trimming.
I trim my hair once a year (usually in January) this year I had 3 inches cut off, but I think that it will be my last trim till I reach to knee length. I do have to admit I will sit with a pair of scissors and cut individual hairs that have split ends.
I don’t have any phenomenal length yet, but my personal opinion would be to cut off all damaged parts of your hair. (I’m not saying do the big chop and go with a bob. I’m saying to gradually eliminate damaged ends until your hair is in a healthy state of damage-free). Healthy not-so-long hair is 1000 times better than really long damaged hair! Eventually your hair will get to the point of desired length you just have to have patience. Hope that made sense.
