Hello everyone! I took a bit of a break from TLHC but I’m happy to report I haven’t trimmed since December 31, 2018.
Hello everyone! I took a bit of a break from TLHC but I’m happy to report I haven’t trimmed since December 31, 2018.
My trimming routine since 2017 seems to be: go a year without trims, then the following year trim every 6 months, and then go another year without trimming.
Just wanted to post an update: I made the mistake of trying coconut oil again a few weeks ago and my ends got horribly crunchy and I thought I would need to trim them off... But I kept up a hydrating routine since then and they seem to be back to normal and actually seem pretty healthy, so it doesn't seem like I'll have issues for the rest of the year as long as I stay away from coconut oil
i always wonder why coconut oil sometimes makes hair crunchy. it seems so counterintuitive
2014 - pixie ---- 2015 - bob ---- 2016 - APL ---- 2016 - bob ---- 2018 - BSL ---- 2019 - waist ---- 2019 - hip ---- 2020 - tailbone ---- ???? - ???
Coconut oil binds to proteins in the hair, so hair that is protein sensitive might react to it similarly as it would to actual protein (note: coconut oil contains no protein in itself). It could also simply be because it remains solid in higher temperatures than most oils.

Personally I've always thought it's because coconut oil is solid at room temperature. You warm it up to put it in, but then it cools and it's going to solidify again even if it's in a thin layer. Looking at a jar of coconut oil it does not list any protein value, only fat. Basically, ditto Ylva

Can't believe July is almost through already!
Still going strong. Feeling an urge for a new look, so I'm going to patch test some different henna blends.
My hair has grown this month. it is finally starting to get past the pixie stage. I can almost predict that I will have a bob by Christmas or earlier.
