    Default The fakkare-buying guide thread!

So I am constantly hunting for fakkares. I really like Ficcare, but I want more color and decoration options than they give (also, expensive). I figured I couldn't be the only one, so a dedicated thread might be a good idea?

The main problem is that there does not seem to be a common name for a clip like the Ficcare Maxima. I have found them under the names beak clip (however, this usually yields the narrow pointy type clips with no teeth that just falls right out of my hair), pelican clip, concorde clip, dolphin clip, and flamingo clip. And unfortunatley they are often made of plastic instead of metal.

Here's some sources I have found for buying:
https://tegenaccessories.co.uk/collections/beak-clips *their selection wary, it's worth checking every now and then
http://www.khakigreen.com/shop-by-category *these are not techincally fakkares as they are actually made by Ficcare!
http://www.longhairedjewels.com/shop-accessories.html *these ones she sells are plastic. Also be aware that the "bronze" is gold with red flowers, does not look like the pictures

    For those in Scandinavia:
Glitter currently has a fakkare in two colours (gold and silver) https://www.glitter.no/harklemme-med...21161366782976 They're in between a medium and large in size.

Other ways I find them are scouring Ebay and amazon... Using all the search words and then digging and digging!

Please add your own links if you have any!

I came across the Karina flamingo clip from Ulta Beauty in the ficcare/fakkare modding thread: http://www.ulta.com/flamingo-clip?productId=VP10435

The particular one I've linked to is about the size of a medium Ficcare. It is metal, but it does not have teeth. I have one; it's pretty sturdy! It only comes in that one color, but if you're creative, you can definitely get some ideas from modding thread!

Yeah I'd like to try that, but Ulta doesn't ship internationally! Boo

I got a couple from Amazon that are medium sized that are nice. They aren't as nice as a ficcare but they are cheap. I think Ficcares are way over priced. They should be more durable for the price.

At one point H&M did them. I stocked up. They are fully plastic. I have them in gray and black! They look just like a ficcare.

I feel like these should be mentioned here. The are about the size of a medium Ficcare but heavier and they have long teeth that a lot of folks don't like. I have a few and they are quite pretty.

Oh and they open wider than a ficcare

Thank you Lunasea! I was gonna include that link and forgot, oooops. I really want the mocha coloured one, but I wish they had a silver option!

With my length/thickness faccares are just as good as Ficcares, my hair doesn't have special needs when it comes to strength, largeness. They have never broken "just like that" after few uses, I get years out of them and the few that have died have done so because of age, wear and tear. Often the ones which broke down after years of active usage are plastic. (As an environmentally conscious person I would prefer my stuff to last even longer, and am not a fan of plastic.)

I might have to test the Glitter one, although from your description it's too large for me. What's good in Ficcares is the size options, although that also makes it difficult to order without ability to test them first. What also appeals to me is non-plastic - most hair toys sold in Finland are plastic. (All the more reason to see the Glitter one in person!)

All of the fakares cost as much as an actual ficcare because I live in Canada. Shipping costs $20-$25, not including tax.

Which places have that high shipping? Are you looking at local Canadian websites? I'm not in Canada, but over here I've found that e.g. Glitter mentioned in the OP and other local physical stores occasionally sell fakkares. I don't know any Canadian stores, but I had a quick look at the Canadian Amazon and found a few different options searching for "beak clip" or "alligator clip" and the like for around 5-7 dollars and free shipping as far as I understand. If you really want one, perhaps you could try searching Amazon for the different names mentioned in the OP?
