    Interesting!!
Oat water for hair cleansing- fail, hair has been super greasy all day. But my scalp was just inflamed yesterday and happy today. Will try oat water again as a rinse post washing as my hair feels very soft but I’m not sure if that’s from the greasiness or the oat water or a mix.

Oat water as a final rinse, let it sit for 15 minutes, rinse it out- pass. My hair detangled so easy. It dried feeling stronger, softer, and overall great.

Hi all - I’m going to revive this thread, as I plan on doing a bit of experimenting with different natural concoctions this year and it seems a great way to document it...anyone else in an adventurous mood?

    So last night I tried:

    2dsp senna leaf
    1dsp amla powder
    1dsp slippery elm
    600ml boiling water

Left the senna & amla to steep for a couple of hours then strained through a paper towel. Mixed in the slippery elm and left it sit til I got around to my hair wash. Did a WO wash and then squirted in half the tea mix and left it sit for 30 mins before rinsing (I froze the remainder).

This morning my hair is softer than normal (it’s rarely soft) but not especially shiny, and my waves and curls are less pronounced. I’ll give this mix a provisional pass while I see if it needs a few rounds to build up shine.

Oooh, I like this thread! It reminds me I wanted to try using brahmi this weekend in some form. Glad to hear you have a provisional pass peony Blue

Glad to hear you’re still experimenting Jane99 - you’ve given me a lot of ideas already from some of your earlier posts

So, over the past month my weekly washes have been:
    Wk 1 - Senna/amla/slippery elm tea
    Wk 2 - plain FRW
Wk 3 - repeat of the Senna/amla/slippery elm tea
Wk 4 - FRW with orange rind & rosemary

My hair feels cleaner than with the WO washes, and is definitely more shiny and beautifully soft after the FRW washes (the senna tea is a bit drying.) I’m planning to keep this routine up for a bit longer, but try a bit of oiling, since my hair can feel a bit stripped and I don’t seem to be producing enough sebum to compensate for the washes. I’ve recently picked up 3 small oil bottles - jojoba, camellia & an amla blend. Let’s see how that goes!

I have experimented with different oils as a prewash treatment, using the following method:

    1. Warm oil in bowl, resting in warm water
    2. Apply oil to hair - cover every strand
    3. Wear plastic shower cap for 1h
    4. Wash using usual shampoo conditioner
    5. Air dry.

Using the above method I found:
-Coconut oil. This is my favourite. Hair feels noticeably much softer. = PASS
-Olive oil. Did not finish. Scalp felt very itchy after only a few minutes of treatment. Had to wash out immediately. Perhaps I'm sensitive to it = FAIL
-Sunflower oil. Oil did not penetrate hair shaft. No change compared to normal = FAIL
-Grapeseed oil. Oil did not penetrate hair shaft again. Suprised me, because a lot of youtubers say it works really well for them. = FAIL
-Avocado oil. Oil penetrated hair shaft. Hair was soft and nourished. Not as strong as coconut though = PASS
-Avocado/coconut oil mixture. Everything feeling pretty soft and nice. = PASS

Here's a diy whipped avocado, honey and olive oil mask I've definitely got to try out sometime before wash day. I think it would be great for this cold weather
