i always thought of it visually (on others) as midway down the butt, so i voted true tailbone length
I always thought BCL meant bum cheek length (which also made me confused about where specifically classic starts) so until i found out it meant bum crack i just assumed no one had named the space just above your bum and below your hips!

In my opinion it is equal to Mid-Butt length, at least on most people.

Definitely where your tailbone is (which, well lower than the butt crack, is still higher than a lot of people think). I had someone tell me I was "TBL" when my hair is an inch away from classic. You can feel your coccyx, and that's where TBL is!

In any case, I didn't learn about length markers until I was past TBL, so I never really thought about it.
