I did collect some cut pieces a long time ago and used them as henna samples... Though it showed up way darker on my real hair but that was what I wanted.
Intermittently to see if I'm shedding normally or more than usual.

Eww, no. Shed hair disgusts me.
Shed hairs floating around my living space icks me. I prefer to have that all confined. I have a hair receiver and when it is full I can take it to the garden and cut it all up into the compost. Back to the earth, you know.
No; it falls under the same category that collecting scabs or skin cells would. Besides, I think seeing all my shed hair in one place would worry me. I'd run to the mirror looking for bald spots.
It doesn't look like an unreasonable amount, but I've never collected my sheds to compare. The vacuum seems to do enough of that as is!

If that's a whole month - it's not a lot. It's about what I shed in a month, I reckon. I think I shed about quarts of what you have there weekly, with my post-wash and pre-wash detangling session.
