Default Single Carrier Oil + Single Essential Oil: Anyone use blends like this?

Please pardon the simplicity of this idea. I just don't know much about oil blending, i.e., no knowledge whatsoever. And all the literature online involves more than one essential oils. Make it seem like you have to have at least 3 essential oils or more to have a balanced blend. Which is fine, if that produces the best scent.

But is it possible to have one carrier oil mixed with a single essential oil? Like Camellia oil and Lavender oil? There is an online aromatherapy shop I like to use to get essential oils for my humidifiers, and they also stock a ton of different carrier oils. Normally, I use EVOO, but thought it might be nice to branch out and try some other oils.

Is there anything wrong with my single carrier oil + a single essential oil idea?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts, opinions, or suggestions!

There's nothing wrong with just using one of each. I'm sure you already know this, but just remember to dilute your essential oil to the proper ratio. I use a jojoba and peppermint oil blend sometimes myself.

I like this idea, too. Nothing wrong with keeping it simple, in fact, it can help you identify which ingredient does what exactly for your scalp before committing, and it will definitely help you identify any ingredients you could have sensitivities to (many people are allergic to some EOs, unfortunately) and limit expenses and risk of EOs going off before they get used up.

Personally, I like tea tree essential oil in combination with coconut oil, for example. I find the smell a bit medicinal, but inoffensive, and I think it's a nice anti-fungal, anti-bacterial EO to have on hand (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1360273/). Peppermint EO smells very fresh and is supposed to promote healthy growth in small concentrations (3%), too. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4289931/)
I don't really use any EOs on length, since hair is dead and I think they can only add aroma, rather than improve the condition of hair. For scalp, I find that oils that are deemed anti-fungal are also supposed to promote hair growth, since healthy scalp is quite important for that. I also find that all oils that are good for scalp are also great cuticle oils - excellent in hand/nail care and foot care, so they always do double duty for me.

I'll link this post by jessie58 here, because she listed some excellent EOs for scalp that I think are worth checking out :

INTERVENTION: Eighty-six patients were randomized into 2 groups. The active group massaged essential oils (thyme, rosemary, lavender, and cedarwood) in a mixture of carrier oils (jojoba and grapeseed) into their scalp daily. The control group used only carrier oils for their massage, also daily.

MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Treatment success was evaluated on sequential photographs by 2 dermatologists (I.C.H. and A.D.O.) independently. Similarly, the degree of improvement was measured by 2 methods: a 6-point scale and computerized analysis of traced areas of alopecia.

RESULTS: Nineteen (44%) of 43 patients in the active group showed improvement compared with 6 (15%) of 41 patients in the control group (P = .008 ). An alopecia scale was applied by blinded observers on sequential photographs and was shown to be reproducible with good interobserver agreement (kappa = 0.84). The degree of improvement on photographic assessment was significant (P = .05). Demographic analysis showed that the 2 groups were well matched for prognostic factors.

CONCLUSIONS: The results show aromatherapy to be a safe and effective treatment for alopecia areata. Treatment with these essential oils was significantly more effective than treatment with the carrier oil alone (P = .008 for the primary outcome measure). We also successfully applied an evidence-based method to an alternative therapy.
In research conducted in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in Scotland, 43 alopecia patients received daily 2-minute scalp massges with essential oils of thyme, rosemary, lavender, cedarwood, mixed with jojoba and grapeseed oils. Another 43 received scalp massages using just jojoba and grapeseed oils. After seven months, 19 people in the essential-oil group grew hair, compared to 6 people in the control group. The results included one man who regrew a full head of hair from an almost completely bald scalp, says Isabelle C. Hay, MRCP, the medical doctor and specialist in dermatology who spearheaded the study. The above comments were excerpted from Prevention Magazine.

I often use just jojoba and neroli or jojoba and lavender when doing a light soap. I prefer to blend my oils and my essential oils but if I haven't replenished my stock, I lean on jojoba since I always have it.

If I make a one use batch (=small quantity), I often use only one or two EOs, otherwise the mixture would become very potent. But if I make bigger quantity, I use more EOs at once. Nothing wrong using only one, in fact the literature I have read is full of references to using only one at a time.

Sure! I often don't use an EOs in my hair oil (which is pretty much whatever grabs my fancy when I say "I think I ought to oil the ends"), but I like emu oil with german chamomile EO for my face.
