Here's my Nautilus. I used the top half of my hair to get an actual Nautilus bun. (My hair is still too thick for its length to do a proper one) I split the bottom hair in half vertically and crossed them over in back, then rope braided them and pinned them around the bun.
    I love all the pics!!

This is the video I learned the nautilus from.

I love the nautilus, no hair ties, no pins, no sticks; nothing!!!!! It's so secure I can even go for runs in it!

ETA: Also, shameless self promotion to include this video I made explaining a variant of the nauthilus bun which works on slightly shorter hair (or just thick hair).

This was incredibly helpful!!! You're so sweet and I love how you explained this so well. And, your hair is GORGEOUS!

Dreamsheep, this video is SO helpful. I thought for sure I'd have to grow my hair to classic to finally be able to do this bun, but with your instructions I got my waist length hair up! So excited that I can add this to my updo arsenal now!!!

What is it called when you loop around some fingers or your hand and circle around the base and secure it the same way but do not do those little twists with your wrist during the second step?

This week I have been finding that I can kind of get my hair up by doing that... the bun is pretty tight and uncomfortable but it will actually hold.

ETA: I just watched the video above and noticed she does not do the wrist rotation. Is her's still a nautilus or is it a variation with a different name?
