I have tried the ammonite bun today. Weeell that one in not going to happen on me again. Never was a fan of fishtail braiding and I knew I´d mess up braiding at the back (I am only able to do a passable fishtail at the side where I can see it from the start). My poor bun ended up looking like a drunken tarantula and I had to take it down. So I´m wearing a loose fluffy nautilus on the top today.

Sorry to hear that. When I did my ammonite, I started with a ponytail, and then did the fishtail, this way I made sure the base was tight enough for me to manipulate/undo/redo later. I also used some pins to fix the shape.


Don’t give up just yet, practice makes perfect.
Some of you might still remember I did three rounds of ABC Hairstyle Challenge and I improved at a visible speed.
Once upon a time, the cinnamon bun was my worst enemy, and after dozens of trials and errors, now I can pretty much flip it anyway I want for variations.

Great tips, as usual, tuanyiji! It never occurred to me to make a variation of the cinnabun like that, and I have not yet heard of abc hairstyle challenge! Will look it up

Today I tried a hairstyle according to one instagram tutorial - basically you are supposed to coil your hair around a hairstick and then push the said haristick beneath it vertically top to bottom, the result is akin to french or peacock twist. I failed, again . I think it´s meant for shorter lengths - each try I would end up with 20 cm of loose hair I could not coil any more.

Yup Nefcerka, I do it that way all the time….but I just take the leftover hair and take another hair stick and make a second french twist beside it. Showed my hair this way in another thread yesterday but this illustrates what I’m talking about.

Oh thanks Whirly Girly!!! I´m so painfully ignorant when it comes to hairstyles (never having worn anything but a braid or a messy bun before) it seems, but I will learn, I promise!

tuanyiji, I just looked up the ABC hairstyle challenge and my mouth is still on the floor You did an awesome job there, I will quietly take myself out of this thread, head over there and won´t return to complain until I master at least a quarter of all those amazing hairstyles. Bye for now

What a day….and it’s still not over yet! Had to rush out the door fast this morning but managed to snap a quick shot of my upside-down dutch braid with a braided top bun, held by my 2 new custom-made, clear teardrop sticks from Lady Idun.
