Olive oil vs Coconut oil - Poll

Coconut oil as a pre-poo treatment, olive oil isn't bad though. Any other time coconut oil leaves my hair dry and/or crunchy.

I prefer argan oil. Freya's hair salve or Triple moon anointing oil from Nightblooming on Etsy are also really great.

My best oil is really mineral oil, but I have been experimenting with olive oil as pre-poo and sometimes pre-conditioner (ROO) oil lately and have had good results (wanted to try something possibly a bit more "nourishing" than mineral oil for those uses). Coconut oil does not agree so well with my hair, but most of all it breaks me out, both face and back, so I stay away from it...

My vote goes to coconut oil, no doubt. Olive oil is okay, it makes my hair feel nice while its still in it, but once its washed out, my hair is back to whatever state it was before (for example dry ends). However, coconut oil makes a difference even after its been washed out as it leaves my hair really soft and even more wurly than usual. It was certainly the number one thing that saved what was left of my poor, broken hair back in the good ol´ dye-and-heatstyling days.

Oh, how tricky! They can both be great but for slightly different purposes and, obviously, they won't work equally for different people. Oils are very YMMV.

I voted coconut just because I use VCO and EVOO for pre-poo oiling, but olive oil is so much easier to overdo on my hair. It gets overly greasy too fast. I find coconut oil is easier to wash out. And don't get me started on the research and anecdotal evidence on coconut oil and its penetrating and protective qualities for pre-poo, pre-bleach, pre-pools, etc !

This has been my experience too. I voted coconut but love EVOO for certain times but must use sparingly.

Same here! I love Coco-Shea! It's so great for softening ends.


And I like mixing olive with coconut, too. The mix makes it less likely that my hair will get crunchy (from coconut) or too greasy (from olive).

Olive oil is great for heavier oilings, but I prefer camellia oil for a lighter oiling.
