Hello everyone! I recently became obsessed with making hair toys too, but mine are mostly from metal (one of my hobbies is metalsmithing) and sometimes I modify mass-produced stuff. My friends and relatives mostly have shorter hair and don't understand the depths of my newly-found passion So, I hope, I found the right thread to flood with enthusiasm I can't see many pictures in this thread yet (but I hope one day I will because I'm very curious) but the ones I see are really awesome! The rainbow hair fork is so cute! Make me want to try woodworking.
And here are mine. Those are from copper and nickel silver (wire + sheet). I was obsessed with the idea of stained glass hair forks, so I experimented with clear epoxy resin and dyes. The hair stick was initially supposed to be filled with resin too, but then I decided to leave it as is.

I especially love the two on the right. Nice work!
So I have this crayola air dry clay I've been playing around with to make beads and toppers for hair sticks. I know air dry clay is not generally very durable and I expect these to break on me at some point but I'm on a budget and trying not to buy crafty things until I can come up with a way to bring extra cash into the house (I have hordes of crafty things in the house already anyway). However, I once made this air dry clay recipe that had drywall joint compound in it and it was supposed to be much stronger and have a more professional finish and if you sealed it it could even be used outdoors. I don't remember the name of the lady who had the video on YouTube. I still have some joint compound left and thanks to my 2 year old unrolling my rolls into the floor, I have some toilet tissue I'm not using too (it's a paper clay).

My father made me some hairsticks a few christmases ago. During Halloween I set them out on my witchy table and tell the kids they are my magic wands
Thinking Long Hair Thoughts
Aequalis - Those are gorgeous! You should seriously consider opening a shop!
ArtOfNoot - I love those! They look like they would hold very nicely. My husband made me a few sticks a few years ago out of wood, and I wear them all the time. Simple, elegant, and very secure!
We have a lot of oak trees where I live and I've been thinking I should gather some branches and make hair sticks!

lithostoic- I was just having that same thought yesterday, actually! Lots of oak and pecan where I'm at, in addition to others. We have Mexican sycamores in our yard, but I wonder how suitable they'd be for hairtoys.
