Love that video! So many pretty styles I *try* to do retro curls, but I don't know where to place the foam rollers for the best result. This is what I get when I just put them in wherever. I still like it, but I definitely am going to watch some youtube videos on how to place rollers, how to section the hair, which way to roll them etc.

I LOVE The Pinup Companion! She's a great channel if you like vintage style and makeup, and she's hilarious.

Watching that video has cheered me up no end I haven’t done any roller sets recently but the video reminded me how long it took to get my hair to resemble something intentional! I could get amazing volume, which grew day by day, but I always spent at least 10 minutes laughing at how ridiculous my hair looked as I brushed it out and tried to work out what to do with it

I’m going to watch every one of her videos

    Howdy!

I'm wondering why I can't see any pictures that other people are posting on this thread. Is it possible that I've turned off something on my phone that needs to be on?

They're probably uploaded with photobucket and since they changed their therms from being free, to people having to pay if they wanted their pictures to be visible (new and old), you can no longer see them. There's hundreds of pictures on the forum that "disappeared" because of this.

Thanks TatsuOni. That explains it. And I did get a few photos to work in spite of everything, & then googled the mentioned hairstyles. So I'm getting some much-needed ideas. Thank you!

Your curls looks lovely! I mentioned a book upthread a bit, Vintage Hairstyling by Lauren Rennells. It has a section explaining how to place rollers in great detail. I don’t know if she does any videos but it would be worth giving Lauren Rennells a google, I think she has a blog, from memory.

I had a go at a Gibson Tuck today, inspired by The Pinup Companion’s video about styles for straight hair without roller setting. Here’s the video.

My hair is pretty wimpy without roller setting, it compacts down and it’s only collarbone length at the moment, so there isn’t much to tuck! This was a real quick effort, it took about a minute! Please excuse the very non retro mini hair clips and lack of volume - but I’m pleased how it turned out.

Thank you The flowers were to make up for the tiny roll, but they made it look instantly dressy! It’s nice to be able to do a hairstyle at last
