Thread: Does henna absorb better on dry hair?

Default Does henna absorb better on dry hair?

Have any of you done it both on wet and dry hair and noticed a difference? I prefer to apply it to wet hair because it's easier to apply to my thick hair. Then I sleep in it. Do you think the moisture in my wet hair is blocking the henna absorption somewhat? Does the henna molecule migrate into the hair better when the hair is more like a dry sponge?

I've done both, and the only difference I've noticed is that it's extremely difficult to blend it through my hair when it's dry. The color was no different.

I much prefer it on towel-dried hair

I have done both and definitely prefer to apply it to towel dried hair. It's easier to get it everywhere and for some reason it seems to stay put better. I have not seen any difference in the color.

    As it used to be

Done both as well and I also prefer towel-dried damp hair. Otherwise the dry hair seems to leech all the moisture out of the henna mud, making it thicker and harder to spread evenly.

Thanks for the tips everyone! Seems like it's unanimous: towel dry damp hair wins. Grainy dry henna is too hard to spread!!

I've done both. I actually prefer it on dry because when my hair is wet it's extra weak and it breaks more when applying henna. I make the paste more runny though to prevent clumping. But that's just me. The results are the same either way, so you do what works for you.

I have always applied on dry hair and never noticed a problem. Whatever works!

I have to do on dry hair. I tried damp and my hair got dry and stiff like it would break if you bent it. Never saw that before. Its whatever works for you not everyone else

Thanks for all the advice! I may eventually have to try it on dry hair just to find out for myself. I think Catherine from Mehandi says on her site that she does it on dry hair.

I JUST put it in dry for the first time because I was having a hard time doing it wet and I liked it a lot better. It works better for me so I'd try both ways. ^__^
