Just done this for the first time in probably close to 10 years, I think my hair needed it - my ends were feeling a little crispy. It's such an effective recipe and so easy, I just went and bought some aloe and threw it together.

I don’t often use honey in the SMT, but I decided to the other day and my hair felt wonderful afterwards! At first I thought it felt oily, but it turned out my hair was just taking longer than usual to dry.

Just so I remember how I did it: I heated the honey in the microwave and then added the aloe and conditioner. I used a heat cap and it was probably on for about an hour by the time I got a chance to wash it off again. I used a tiny bit of leave in afterwards but no oil.

Anyone have any good aloe vera gel recs?
I always used Fruit of the Earth aloe gel, with Suave Wild Cherry Blossom conditioner, but the last few times I've tried to do the mixture with aloe, I get these weird white flakes.
It's super weird, I've never had this problem before until relatively recently.

I don't like using honey in my hair because I don't want to risk any lightening (I have dark hair). Does heating it prevent that from happening or do you heat it to make it easier to mix?

My understanding is that heating the honey is supposed to rid it of its lightening properties, yes. However, I've never noticed any lightening from using honey in my hair, whether or not I heated it first.

Oh, good to know. Thank you! I just prefer to keep my natural color. Hmm...I wonder if I could substitute molasses? Off to find the nearest rabbit hole!

I just did this again yesterday. I hadn't for a while just out of laziness but it never ceases to make my hair feel so silky

I tried this yesterday and substituted molasses for the honey. My hair is very shiny and silky today with just a hint of molasses scent (which I love)! Next time I will make SURE not to try to squeeze this in. I wasn't sure how much to make and if any leftovers could be kept in the fridge until the next treatment. I'll make a little less in the future.

Funny story/true confession--I didn't have a shower cap to wear under the heat cap I just bought so used a small 8 gal. garbage bag. Between not tying it tight enough and my hair being very slippery/slimy inside a plastic bag, some of my hair started to slither out from under it during treatment. Here I am butt naked with a garbage bag and heat cap over a head full of molasses and conditioner and the brown ooze starts dripping down my face and body! I swear, if anybody had asked to use the bathroom I probably would have told them to go outside! Hahaha! Actually, my biggest concern was that I didn't want it to get on my new heat cap. It smelled really delicious and I had to keep reminding myself not to lick it!

Did my very first SMT yesterday after I found aloe vera gel in the shop this week. I used 2 tsp each of honey and aloe, and then 8tsp of garnier fructis papaya hair mask (which I love the smell of &#128525 Left it on for a little over an hour, no heat cap so I just put a plastic baggie over my head. I let my hair dry overnight, and today it felt smooth, and didn’t tangle after I wore it down for a good part of the day! I also took the chance to s&d, and my ends now feel super silky. Leaving it on for an hour is a bit time-consuming, but I’ll probably do this again since my hair seemed to like it.
