You can make your own flaxseed gel, it's quite easy I used to make a bigger batch and then freeze it in ice cube tray. (Then I bought a 1kg box of aloe vera gel from Naissance on ebay - link to 500g because the 1kg is sold out. But I stocked up prior to brexit, not sure how the rates to Europe are now)

Can I use glycerin instead of honey? If that's possible, how much should I use?

And does anyone add oils to this and know how much to use without having the hair look greasy?

    I was thinking this

    4 parts condish
    1 part aloe
    1/2 part glycerin
    1/4 part babassu oil
    ?
    Or should I modify?

Thank you, lakhesis! I'll see if I can find that somewhere. That seller doesn't even sell to EU anymore at this point D:. I guess I'll have to ask around first.

I did my first experiment today, 4 spoons of Dream Lengths conditioner, 1 of honey and 1 of MCT oil. I'll leave it on for one hour. I hope it works!

    Edit:

I think this is fairly good! I'll probably keep using it as it left my hair very soft when I rinsed it out and proceeded with shampoo. I'll try adding more honey next time!

Still wondering how much oil I can add to SMT without making hair look greasy, if anyone has experimented or knows?

I think that very much depends on your hair. Even if I were to be able to tell you how much I needed (not much as my texture shows oil very quickly and becomes like plastic if I put too much in) you would find that it is different for your hair.

Resurrecting this thread with a question: Is there a somewhat more up-to-date list of SMT compatible conditioners somewhere in the middle-to-end of this thread? The list in the 1st post seems to have been updated little (if at all) since the thread was started in 2008.

If not, does anyone know if Renpure Originals Argan Oil or White Rain Coconut & Hibiscus are compatible? Actually, even if there is an updated list, I'd love to hear about any personal experiences with using either of these in an SMT!

    TIA

JasminexCat, I have always made mine with glycerin in the same proportions as the original recipe. Some people complain about glycerin being a little more tricky to "activate" the humectant effect than aloe vera, but I've seen no problems. Adding oil, however, I have no experience with.

How does this work as a leave-in conditioner?

Okay, I tried this myself and no, it doesn't work, at least in that "don't rinse it away too efficiently" -form. My hair got hard and stuck together. Maybe it was the honey that made it, sugar surely can work that way.

What a pitty... 🤔 I hope that only aloe leave-in works better. 👍

I've never used it as a leave in, due to the honey
