Water with aloe, honey or glycerine could be a great rinse or a hydrating spray, but I wouldn't expect it to actually cleanse any oils or product buildup. You can use it as a "wash", I guess, when your hair isn't really dirty anyway and just needs a "refresh & restyle".

I recently tried the aloe/vegetable glycerin shampoo I saw on this no-poo methods post since the egg yolks didn't work out for me. http://mymerrymessylife.com/2013/08/...e-recipes.html.

She claims that "Glycerine acts as a cleaner because it bonds to dirt and oil and washes it out when you rinse"....any thoughts?

It is true that glycerine bonds with sebum and dirt, but didn't really wash out of my hair. I had to clarify to get it all out maybe i used too much, i don't know

I suggest you mix the honey with an egg yolk or two and use that. I think it will clean and have a moisturising effect. There is a thread on here about egg shampoo that you could look up if this is of interest to you.

Well, I'm not good with telling if it actually washed out but it made my hair clean. I washed Friday with it and today it's looking greasy today so I'll shower tomorrow (Monday). It always takes my hair a long time to figure out if it likes anything but that's hair I guess.

How do you "clarify" stuff to get it out of your hair? Still a newbie here, but what would you use to clarify?

Generally, a clarifying shampoo is a simple SLS shampoo with no conditioning agents added to it. It's used to remove product build-up.
But if you only need to wash off glycerin/aloe/honey, then water-only, conditioner-only or any mild shampoo that you like will probably do the trick.

I use honey to wash my hair all the time. I love it. However, I dilute it really well, about 2 tsp. to 3.5 ounces of water, and I add a couple of drops of shampoo or a half tsp. of plain white vinegar to the mix, and a couple of drops of lavender E.O. on occasion. I only use raw honey, because most other honey has corn syrup added and that doesn't work for me. I sometimes feel a bit weighed down a day or two after, so I'll use something else to wash with then. But good honey works for me, and is the only thing that my scalp actually seems to like, and that doesn't automatically result in frizz when my hair dries.

I also sometimes brew some tea with honey and a bit of lemon, drink half, and use the rest to wash my hair.

Honey makes my hair really clean. It still makes me dry if I do it too often though

I tried honey to wash my hair once and it seemed to leave a tacky film on my hair that didn't come out for awhile. But it should be noted I don't use shampoo on my hair or any strong cleansers. If you do, that might not be a problem.
