200 hairs per day is WAY too many. That's like 75% of your hair lost every year. I doubt you'd grow much past shoulder length if that rate were constant

I experienced huge hair loss when I used to oil my hair heavily, including the scalp. I stopped doing that as soon as I learned (on here!) that the two could be connected and it's really helped. Maybe your scalp responds differently, but for me it wasn't good. Have you tried bunning lower, like more at the nape? I have a sensitive scalp with kind of thin hair on the crown and bunning low is what's most comfortable with a lot less pull from the weight.

It's not every day that I lose 200 hairs but it's not unusual. If I had to estimate I'd say I'd lose 125 hairs a day on average but this is just an estimate so it might be wrong. I've always had fine hair and a lot of it, so maybe I have more hairs and can therefore lose more. I have no idea how I still have hair. I have had trouble going beyond hip length in the past. I think I do go through periods of less and more hair loss. So 125 might not be consistent for years, it's just what I'm noticing over the last month or so. But even on my best days in other months, before using any oil, I'd say id lose like 70 as a minimum?

Yes I think I'm going to try oil-free for a bit. I'm going to wash tonight because not washing the gel/oil out is leading to more loss, it's so matted I can't dentangle it and even just trying to section or part it or run my fingers through it once has 10-20 hairs coming out each time.
But I think the wash might also trigger some loss. Eep.

It's definitely a bit thinner in the area where my scalp feels like it's pulling, which is the top/front of the head for me. I do often do low buns, that's usually my go to. But I've been trying to change my bun position regularly and do sectioned buns to take pressure off specific areas. I have it in a claw clip today, which was my only option as I couldn't detangle it enough to braid it and I felt like I couldn't bun it either. I think this feels like the least pulling option for the time being.

I remember in the shower, screaming frantically as softball clumps of hair were falling into my hands and onto the bathtub floor. It was horrific. I got out of the tub and looked in the mirror. I thought I looked like the cryptkeeper. It was awful.

My fifteen year old daughter helped me gather up the piles of hair off of the floor. It was a hard day for the both of us.

The same thing happened five other times during and after cancer treatment. Just out of nowhere, all my hair would fall out. And every time I felt so ugly.

I had one relative that would reach for my hats or wigs, to see what I looked like under there. This person would call me "Curly", after the bald guy from the Three Stooges, or Uncle Fester from The Addams Family. I felt so ugly, so horrid.

So if anyone is going through hair loss, I'm here for you. I've been there. I will walk beside you.

My old best friend went through that, and her DH heard her weeping in the shower. He got in there with her and told her enough was enough, and he removed the rest of her hair. She said it was the kindest thing anyone had done for her. Scarves, hats and a wig were on the agenda then, but no more hairloss which was breaking her heart.

glad someone popped this thread up, im losing a lot of hair at the moment... seems to all be stress related shedding rather than breakage but jesus christ

don't know how my monthly check in is going to look this month because I've lost so much hair following a car crash, coming off medications suddenly, the flu... it's been very stressful up in here lately

and losing so many eyelashes all the time too.

I don't have a particularly sensitive scalp, but I think that sounds exactly right. Sectioning is a great way to distribute forces too.

Did you get quite sick or have a lot of extra stress around 2ish months ago? That can cause TE.

I have had a lot of stress in the last few months. Also covid and just general burn out. A lot of stress in the last week too.

Washed my hair this morning to get the residue out because my hair loss has been worsening leaving it it. I think I might ave lost 300+ hairs, I have given up on even trying to estimate but it was a lot. I don't think I want to know. I hope the wash puts an end to the loss but if it's stress related then I don't know if it will

Sorry to hear this Articfoxes. sending you hugs. Hope life settles down for you ASAP. Take care of yourself.

I wonder if there is a way to address stress related hair loss? Especially if the stressors aren't able to be eradicated?

I'm so sorry. I can't believe how cruel your relative was to you. Some people really don't know how to be supportive. Thanks for your support here. My hair loss is nothing compared to what you went through, though I have gone through stress related hair loss in the past and it always seems to happen when I'm trying to grow my hair.
