How long since you went to the salon/hairdresser?

Last time was early December of 2012. I will be going again probably sometime in March 2013. I have my silvers colored back to my own blonde color and I get a trim. I have a great stylist who is a wizard with coloring blonde hair and she does great trims.

At least a couple of years before I joined LHC. I use Feye's Self Trim method of cutting my own hair. Much better results than any salon ever gave me and for a lot less money.

Salons always wanted to do horrid things like layers, feathering, thinning, bangs! (these are all terrible looks for my hair, which is not even very thick at all) and other things I did not want plus they handled my hair so roughly. I am tender-headed and hate having my hair ripped through and yanked plus the sink washing thing always gave me a lot of tangles.

3 years.....maybe. I go with Muffin and Eddie always jokes about getting his hands on my hair so it all runs together.

got a trim last week cause I can't stand when I get breakage at my ends, and a couple spilt ends.

My last salon visit was April 2010. So almost 3 years! And I don't plan on going any time soon. I just trim it myself every few months.

Last hair cut I had in a salon was in High school, I think sophemore year. Over 7 years ago.

I last got my hair cut at a salon sometime spring semester senior year, so that's 5 years ago, now!

The last time I was in a salon was July 2010 - I wanted layers cut off so I could start growing out, but I ended up with razor layers up to chin. I didn't know anything about how hair was cut and had no idea that's what he was doing. A few months later in early November, I went to a men's barbershop and asked him to cut off those layers, taking me to collarbone. I've done everything myself since then, and I have no intention of going back to a salon ever (excluding George Michael and the like, of course). If I really want a professional trim, I'll go to a men's barber again or go visit my friend in Arizona who just got her first job as a stylist.

Salons make me uncomfortable - not the stylists, but the atmosphere of a lot of them around here. They're way, way too fancy and expensive. I feel out of place with my old clothes and no makeup and no contemporary hairstyle, and I don't know what the etiquette is for tipping multiple people and exactly which ones need to be tipped.

In the past, I've really wanted to say "yes" when they offer me a drink or a cup of tea, but I'm not sure if it's complementary and I feel foolish asking.

I voted 3-6 months, but that is because I started to cut it myself. I invested in a crea clip so I let my mom cut my hair now. Last time I was at a hairdressers was august 2012, I think (I don't remember the exact time). This way, I save at least 300 dollars a year, and I get it cut the way I want it. To me the choise was pretty simple:

A: Pay 75 dollars every 3 months to get your hair washed, straightened, and get an uneven cut, and twice as much off as you asked for. Never any length gain, and spend and hour each time.

B: Let your mom cut your hair with the crea clip when it needs to for free, just comb the hair, get what you ask for, gain length, spend 5-10 minutes.

ETA: More than once, I have had a stylist rip a brush through my curly, wet hair, and clearly being able to hear the snapping and breaking. No wonder my hair is so thin, if it get that kind of treatment so often!
