I don't understand what's going on but my hair is so much straighter lately. I thought it was the length, but after the 4 inches cut nothing changes. Frustrating, I don't understand if I'm doing anything wrong or it's just how it is. My unbleached hair look even straighter. I'll try to type my hair again in summer.
Enjoying shorter hair for a while

Build up? Maybe clarify and see if it changes

Maybe it's just the weight from growing it out? Have you been doing something else to it, lately? Guessing not, otherwise it wouldn't be such a mystery...
WCC method (washing) --- Rinse-out oil (MO) --- LOC/LCO method (styling)

I have this issue from last summer, I thought it was a mixture of weight and damaged ends. My avatar picture was taken on one of my last good hair days. Leave in and scrunch were the only things I used. If possible, now that my ends are thicker, it overall looks straighter than before.
At the roots, a good part of my new hair is curly so I don't know what's going on. I'm so tempted to cut even more next time, to see if it's really the weight...

And wow! Wet frizz has gone down considerably, my curls are curlier, and there is a lot less breakage. It feels softer, stronger, more manageable, shinier too. I’m going to keep focusing on moisturizing my hair until it feels like it would be better to stretch my washes again. The relationship between curly hair and protein/moisture balance is so freaking awesome! And I am once again reminded of how important it is to go by how my hair feels. I thought I was losing a lot of curl bcs of the length of my hair but I guess not. I am using my pantene conditioner as a leave in, as usual, and my curls are so defined and springy. It’s all about protein and moisture huh
After next week, I think I should be good to go back to stretching full length washes with scalp washes. Time to experiment with my wash schedule to balance stretching washes and hydrating my hair.

I understand your thoughts. No idea why this how the color often changes. I was wondering why young girls/kids/teenagers can grow long thick hair, and it's more difficult als an adult. Healthier? More grow cells (is this even a thing?) Maybe hormones for growing?
At least as a kid, you are shorter and have a smaller head, which more easily gives the impression of longer/thicker hair.

I read somewhere that children might have more hairs growing from each follicle and this decreases with age to typically one hair per follicle. I have no idea where I read that or whether it’s credible

Could it be anything to do with humidity? Sometimes drier air in winter can make hair look straighter. I remember Groovy Granny used to go from something like 1c in winter to 2c in summer.

I am sporting day 3 hair, but freshly washed bangs last night. I planned to wear my hair down today and wash it this evening, but when releasing from the sleep bun the ends looked so bad. I clearly can see they need a 2” trim at least to look their best and got a little sad as I don’t want to —at least not yet.

Then I remembered: day 3 hair always looks a little brittle and dry. I wetted the last 4 inches, appplied leave-in followed by oil and they bounced right back up. I probably should have waited until I was all the way awake and caffeinated before I started changing hair plans. still looking forward to my trim in 2 weeks, but I won’t examining the ends again until then to decide how much (but probably sticking with 1/2”)
WL & growing on to HL last bleach nov 2020 final goal is HL virgin hair by 6/2025 for my 40th

If this is true it could definitely be one explanation. I have many of those double-haired follicles, still, though.

Alright, I’m doing it. The growing out I mean. My roots are now showing quite a bit and that’s the point when I’d usually henna. But the color difference is not “offensive” and doesn’t bother me too much AND more importantly, I’ve noticed a whole lot of grey hairs coming out at my temples and I definitely want to grow it out before they take over.
