I've finally decided it's time to grow my sides out
Material Girling my way to longer hair.

I understand why people's goals expand now. Almost at mine and I just want more length! I'm following the original plan and spending this next year working on my hemline (and hairline a bit) for full thickness, but THEN... maybe I'll go for hip
That's the thing.... I'd rather have blunt ends, but I admit the fairytale ends are easier for putting into styles. I always love my blunt ends when I trim or at the end of my braid, then I'm rolling my eyes when I'm trying to put it into a bun or something...
Putting it in my signature because I have to say it so often:
Do what works for your hair, not what other people say is "right" or "wrong." If it works for you, it's not wrong. If it doesn't work for you, it's not right.
I just CO washed my hair upside down and it felt amazing. The conditioner spread so much better and I know I got all of the shea butter out of the hair on the back of my head. New piece to my routine!
So a little update to my weird skincare-as-haircare experiment. Here's been my routine:
1) Micellar water on the scalp as a pre-wash. I use this to help get rid of any oiliness. I massage it into my scalp for a minute or so before I actually get in to wash my hair.
2) Wash my hair (either scalp-only or full length) with CeraVe Foaming Facial cleanser. It is extremely mild, and has no scent so it doesn't bother me. It doesn't feel as harsh as clarifying shampoo, but gets my hair veryclean. My scalp doesn't feel dry or "squeaky" afterwards.
3) I will do occasional vinegar rinse (diluted with water). I only have white vinegar at the moment. I probably do this every 5 days or so.
4) Treatment/Condition like normal
It's the leave-in step that's pretty different here. I'm using a thick Japanese toner diluted with water (Experimenting with 20%-25% toner to 80%-75% water) as a leave-in conditioner. I find that leave-ins work best when my hair is slightly damp. The toner has hylauronic acid, honey, and other goodies in it, but nothing like silicones or heavy oils (Since it's made for the face). I can spray it all over my scalp and the length of my hair with no problem, and it does an incredible job imparting conditioning benefits and shine, not to mention it helps my scalp as the weather gets drier! I can do my leave-in morning and night (followed by mineral oil as my finishing oil) and I've had great results.
I am so impressed by my results that I'm thinking of maybe making a thread on this over in the conventional products sub-forum to see if anyone else is doing experiments like this.
I use a ratty old fitted sheet to stand on top of, both for trims and to henna my hair. If I don't want to deal with the mess right then, I just bundle the sheet up and put it away dirty until such time as the spirit moves >.> (It lives under the sink with other cleaning supplies.)
I plan to trim tomorrow and am thinking it’s a good thing my bathroom needs a good cleaning anyways, I’ll sweep the hair up then scrub down the bathroom! I usually cut dry so I can quickly vacuum it up, but I will try damp tomorrow. I also have a tiny bathroom and have no choice but to stand over the toilet to trim, and I will let most of the hair fall in to be flushedI would never cut it a larger room knowing how fast the hairs could spread around!
