Last night I didn't even bother with the bonnet, just draped my hair up and over the headboard. Felt great. Until and unless I can find some usable long bonnet, this looks to be my next usual practice.
Updating this: wearing the bonnet upside down, with the seam at forehead instead of nape, keeps the bonnet on much better. Now when the band slides down, it does so toward the eyebrows instead of off the scalp.

Very loose ponytail tied with a scrunchie and over the end of my bed.

I brush it all out, then with four satin scrunchies I tie in few-inch sections down to the bottom.

I wear it down, but I have used satin sleep caps. It's summer now and the satin caps make me too hot. I tried braids, but I found that my hair got more tangled with them then if I had just worn it loose.

If I'm taking a nap, I wear my hair in a loose ponytail and sleep on a satin pillowcase. At night it stays in a loose pony but I wear a silk cap since I prefer sleeping on a cotton pillowcase. From time to time I wear my hair in braids with a satin scarf over them.

Anything other than loose feels too restrictive, but I'm sure I'll revisit this question when it's longer.

I sleep with it down and wake up with mushroom/muffin hair. When it was long I would pineapple it or braid it usually.
