I dyed my hair and it turned out blotchy

So I finally got rid of my black dyed hair with L'oreal Hair color removal kit. It turned my hair this orangy and ginger color. Then I waited a couple of days and colored it a Red color...its called "Red rush" I think from Loreal Feria. It looks really pretty and bright! but some areas like my roots are lighter and other areas its like a copper shade...I was wondering if you have any suggestions on how I could get rid of the blotchy look? I was thinking of waiting for a few weeks to give my hair a rest and some treatments and coloring it a darker shade of red? any suggestions?

Your hair might be unevenly porous, wouldn't that account for the uneven dye uptake?

I'm not sure how to repair the problem, though.

(There are porosity control products, but I think they're designed to correct the problem beforehand.)

maybe henna would help? especially if you are aiming for red.
