    Default Wooden combs

I didn’t do the most exhaustive search but the threads I did see were old and dead. Feel free to link me if I missed something!

I’m in the market for a wooden comb. Looking for something sturdy that feels good in my hand, with teeth (tines?) that are more pointy than blunt. Medium to wide spaced teeth for detangling. I have searched on Etsy but my head spins after a few minutes.

I want to be able to use a bit of watery product when detangling— Selkie or diluted conditioner. Is that like, definitely not okay with wooden stuff? My hair won’t be soaking wet, just a bit damp. I’ll of course let it dry in between uses with lots of airflow.
I woke up like this (brushing the top of my calves somehow??)

I use my comb on damp hair but I make sure it dries quickly and never stays wet for long. Most wood is coated enough to be partially water resistant. I was going to add a link to the shop where I got my favourite comb but it looks like they shut down.

    Did you find one, Knobbly?
I love my wooden comb and use it all the time, it's from MDWoodenArt on Etsy.
Much love to all my fellow long hair peoples!

You beat me to it Alexandrina! I was also going to recommend MDWoodenArt on Etsy! I have several in different shapes and sizes and I use them every day. They feel good in the hand and are gentle on my hair.

Just ordered this from HibiscusOrganicShop on Etsy. It's a neem wood comb. I've been thinking about getting one for a long time and finally did it. I never buy myself anything, so it's a nice little treat .

I'll third them! I have one of the "Witches combs" in cherry and I LOOOOVE it to bits! I thought it may have been too wide toothed and big at first since my hair is pretty fine, but it works like a DREAM. I also have a bamboo comb but I'm not as impressed with it because it splinters, The MDWA is SO WELL MADE!

I got my comb! I'm oiling it and letting it soak in a bit while I work and then I'll do my scalp massage tonight.

Just stopping by to say that I always use Selkie shortly before combing or brushing my hair (all my hairtools are of different wooden materials), so I'd say it's perfectly fine to do that.

Back in 2009 when I joined this site, a lot of LHCers were raving about Body Shop wooden combs. So I bought one. Splinters developed on the comb which tore my hair.

    Never again.

I made this comb last week at my school's woodshop.

It's well sanded, I still have to oil and wax and polish it so it glides even better without any snags. I like how it turned out!

Oh and it's made of oak.

    I'm fine
