    Default Beets?

Making a salad and opening a can of beets, I find myself wondering... Has anyone tried to dye their hair with beet juice? It's a lovely magenta color.

I searched, but didn't see anything specifically specific about it!

That's an AWESOME idea! It's got such a great colour, hasn't it.
I asked auntie google and even found a recipe:

How to dye your hair red naturally

The main issue I have is the hour of sun they want... i do not live in a very sunny area

EDIT: I am wondering if it also works when you create a beetroot/carrot mash and put it on your head. It might hold better in your hair than the liquidy juice.

Interesting article! Thanks for asking your auntie! LOL!

I think I'd want to skip out on the carrot juice and just go pink.

You're right about the carrot mash helping it stay on, I'd bet.

I wonder, instead of an hour in the sun, could you use heat to set it?

Yeah.. beets are one of my faves. I can eat them by themself, without the salad, any time, any day. Particularly with honey mustard dressing.

I planted some, but they didn't come up.

    Aww, bummer.
I keep saying I'll plant some, but never do. How long ago did you plant them?
We have some many other things we want to plant and really don't have the room, I'm the only one in the house that likes beets, so planting beets gets bumped for the more popular plants.

I planted them well over two weeks ago. Our weather has been unusually hot lately, so I think they just didn't respond very well. I'll know to go earlier next year, or late in the fall so I can get a crop before winter!

    Hiya,

I had the same idea and used mashed boiled beets, blueberries and lemon juice in a 40% henna 60% indigo mix.... messy, complicated and took 4 hours with heat to take but stayed for a good 5/6 weeks and looked a really good shade of purple.
You can see the results in my pics. (Bear in mind I had blonde hair to start and used a manic panic pink on my white streak, it's just the purple thats beet dye!)

I now do this on my natural dark brown hair as it has grown through and get a really nice plummy shine

Good luck if you go for it!
