No, my mother tongue is German!
That's why my English is so bad plus I am not used to write English on PC, normally I write it only with a pen on paper^^
And I also can speak French, I like the sound of the language!
English is my first language
English is not my first language
I grew up bilingual with English and another language
English is not my first language, but it is the one I use most often and in which I am most fluent
My first language is cheese
I'm just curious as to the proportion of members here whose first language is actually English. To avoid confusion, we'll clarify that one's first language is the language learnt from birth, rather than any other potential definition. I'm also interested in seeing what non-native English speakers' first languages are, but didn't want to start creating groups for first languages in the poll because I'd inevitably leave something out

I spoke spanish before I learned english. You would never know it.
English is my first language. I didn't speak any other langauges until I started studying them in secondary school. Nowadays I use far more French than I do English. I can go weeks without speaking to another first-language English speaker, that's why my posts and blog sometimes read like they were written by someone translating from another language.
My sister was like that after she spent a year in France: she started saying things like "I'm so strong at this game!" which, while not technically incorrect, is not something a native English speaker would generally say. Of course, she got her own back when I mocked her for wondering if a vehicle would "cede" for us when she was driving, because I didn't believe "cede" was a real word in English, but apparently it is.

My first language is English; I don't speak any other languages. Well, you could technically argue I speak French ... but I don't think I could do much more than order food and coffee and talk endlessly about my family at this point

English is my first language and I am trying to learn Danish.
My first language is Italian. I started learning English at school, and improved it watching movies and reading book...and of course writing on this board
English is not my first language My first language is Turkish, and I speak and write in both languages fluently. I can understand some Italian, too, but I wouldn't consider myself anywhere near fluent I'm planning to learn either German, Dutch or Swedish in the next two years, as I plan to attend grad school in one of those countries.
