Any diet that isn't starvation-based will be fine for your hair.

Yeah, echoing what other posters have said--if you are restricting calories as part of your diet, be careful not to under-eat, eating fewer calories than your body requires to maintain itself at the most basic level. The majority of the calories we eat go towards just keeping us alive.

As a very rough guideline, you can calculate your "basal metabolic rate" (which is the amount of calories your body would need if you were literally immobile the entire day)... obviously this is just an estimation. But for instance, according to this calculator, based on my height, age, weight and sex, if I were eating less than 1354 calories a day, I'd actually be starving myself. Obviously that's not good for a person in general, including the hair! Good luck.

Slug yoga that's about right, I got 1333.

However yesterday I had a super high calorie day, consisting of 2000+ calories I need to work my butt off today with the weights, but I am very lazy! I might switch my schedule around so I have a 3 day rest, I think I need a break...

I think what you guys are saying is........watch your protein intake. I really believe that your body needs protein in order to replicate all of its cells.....Your body is smart......If there is a paucity of protein, it will keep it for vital organs and functions....another words.....the protein will go to your brain, heart, lungs etc rather than your hair.
So diets need a healthy amount of complete protein for hair to grow healthy and normally, along with essential vitamins and minerals.
Diet, but eat well and vitamin supplements.

I'm with everyone that said they saw improvement in their hair when following atkins/paleo diet. I lost 12 pounds in 9 days just by cutting out all the simple sugars and starches from my diet and my hair started growing out completely gorgeous

I guess my choice of diet at the time was a sensible one as my hair seem to get thicker more than anything,it was the fact i ate healthier such as more fruits and veg in my diet.

Starvation-based/anorexia nervosa? You'd better believe I lost a lot. Healthy now, eating clean, maintaining? MUCH better. I eat about 90% paleo now, just because it feels right. My hair is coming back!!!

When I lost a lot of weight several years ago I did lose a lot of thickness. My ends are still much thinner since knee length takes a long time to catch up!

I am not too upset by this though. I am happier to have lost the weight since it was in my way. The hair will regrow.

Be careful when dieting; restricting the nutrients and especially macronutrients (fat, carbs, protein) can take a serious toll on your hair. Your body uses up all it needs and whatever's left goes to hair and nails. If there's already a deficit, your hair may fall out
