About 1/2 and 1/2 right now. When at home, I usually leave it down. But, I almost always put it up to go out. Some of this is out of selfishness. I want to see if anyone notices that my hair has grown in about six months when I wear my hair down out again.

I count braids as 'up,' as far as protection goes. Yes, they can still get damaged by rubbing, etc--but the hair is a lot more protected than when it's left loose, and any single hairstyle has its own damaging tendencies, so it's one of several ways I wear my hair. I think that rotating between different buns and braid styles keeps the damage to a minimum and keeps the damage which does occur from always happening in the same place. My hair is very fine (texture sometimes reminds me of the non-sticky part of a cobweb), and if I wore it down it would be a mess and a pain to deal with at any length beyond shoulder (which is a very un-flattering length on me).

I have APL hair and I infrequently wear my hair down. I use protective styling a lot to achieve my goals.

My hair is just past BSL and I only wear my hair down on holidays or when drying. Other than that it's up to help protect from damage. I started wearing my hair up when I found this site; I was at APL.

Beyond classic for now. I wear my hair up when it is comfortable and will stay. IF I have a head ache... all bets are off on what I can do, usually down and not even able to pull it back. Freshly washed hair often won't stay up in a bun. That and I like to wear it down at least that day. Most days, I do wear it up in a bun or braid though. If I don't it is all over the place or into things.

My hair is about shoulder length in the back and shorter in the front, and right now I wear it up about half the time. I would like to wear my hair up more, but I don't know how to do many styles and my hair isn't long enough for many updos anyway. For now, I just learn about the styles and wait...

My hair is BSL-Classic, and I never/infrequently wear my hair down.

This trend of mine pre-dates my time at the LHC...I just wore the same updo every time!

I've worn my hair in a braid a few times, but not loose and down. In fact...I think I've only done it once in the last couple years.

Between work, how often I cook, and working out, I need my hair to be up most of the time. The rest of the time...well...I just find it quite comfortable that way. It allows me to wear my few but prized hair toys and it doesn't get caught on anything!

My hair is past classic now and rapidly approaching fingertip length. I wear it down fairly frequently. This time of year, if I don't have a good reason for it to be up, I wear it down. ("Good reasons" include: wind, rain, work, children, animals, and certain household "chores" like cleaning or gardening, as well as anything else where it's just in the way.)

In hotter weather it's a whole different story though- up nearly all the time in this climate.

ETA: For years, I wore my hair up ALL THE TIME. I actually started wearing it down more often after joining the LHC. Once I joined here and discovered shampoo bars instead of cones and sulfate shampoos, I discovered that it was possible for my hair to look the way I'd always wanted it to. (I also discovered that my hair is wavey with the odd loose curl rather than straight and just very frizzy/poofy. Big difference.) After that, I actually wanted to wear it down.

My hair is classic length and I VERY infrequently wear it down. Simply because I feel I can't anymore. I started wearing my hair up all the time this last summer and when I went to wear it down after a couple of months, I hated how tangled/knotted it got. Ugh. I prefer to wear updos mainly because it saves me a lot of hassle in the long run.
