I had a lower quality cassia years ago, which gave me a green tint I could not get rid of - I don´t think it was only cassia, but something else mixed in as well.
The green tint is almost never from additives, but from the Chrysophanic acid reacting with minerals in your water. It will stay on your hair until you use something chelating to remove the minerals. Senna is generally a very inexpensive herb, so while odds of it being cut with something else is possible, there's no great profit motive for it.

I have no issue with the henna and indigo I got from the same person I'm wondering if I'm just very slightly allergic to it or it could be the upside down washes but I've never had headaches from that using chemical dyes.

I'll try it again next week without the aloe powder because selling a kilo of Cassia would be annoying. Still getting rid of the fenugreek helped

That's too bad. I would've been interested in buying it off of you if the shipping wasn't going to be something crazy!

That really sucks, Bat! I'm sorry. Have you ever had trouble with any other herbal dyes before?

Have you noticed any other difference between cassia obovata and cassia auriculata than that obovata gives some color but auriculata doesn’t? I have used cassia auriculata few times and obovata only once, and I´m wondering what differences there are between those two. I´ve used Cultivator´s cassia that includes cassia auriculata and aloe vera, and that makes my hair only little bit dry after the treatment, but after using cassia obovata (Khadi Senna/Cassia) I felt that my hair was quite dry, but I guess that could be just the aloe vera missing

Is there any difference between those two on how long the good effects of cassia stay in the hair?

I haven't used henna nor cassia in a long while. I still have some packets left, starting to feel the urge to try cassia. I have Cultivator's cassia.
I am so glad I read this thread before trying it out!

Because where I live right now, we have really hard well water, and it would be likely for the cassia to give my hair some greenish tones if I used it with our tap water. So I will definitely get some distilled water to mix it with. Also clarify with chelating shampoo next time I wash my hair.

Funny thing about distilled water btw, I only now realized that it is not as hard to come by in my country as I thought! It is just sold under a different name: "akkuvesi" - which would translate into "car battery water" Does not sound like something I would like to put into my hair, but it is basically the same thing as distilled water. Sold cheap in huge canisters.

Lets see how long this little lump can get. Viva la natural!

Hi everyone. 😃 I've been gone a long time, but never forgot this place.
Can I ask where I might find Nightshades henna/cassia recipe - the one she devised to overcome henna that became too dark on her hair? I did try search but nothing specific came up, but probably haven't tried hard enough!

Hahaha I'll save you the looking!

    per 100g

    35g henna
    10g conditioning herbs
    55g senna / cassia

In the last few years I bumped the henna content up to 40g because I'm getting a lot whiter a lot faster

I then lightened up the length of my hair to match:

Hello, i was wondering is senna alexandrina the same as cassia angustifolia? Does it have the same dye properties as cassia obovata? (i have read cassia auriculata for example does not color the hair at all). Thank you
