    Hair type: 2a/2b / F/M / ii

    Advice that did work:
    Tangle Teezer.
Shea butter as a leave in between washes. Super soft hair.
    Camellia oil.
    Shampoo bars.
ACV rinses. (Brought out my waves!)
    Conditioner with amodimethicone.
Deep treatments, but not too frequently.
    Braiding at night.
    SMT's

    Advice that did not work:
    Coconut oil.
    Any type of protein treatment.
    Cassia.
Combs, even widetooth. They are still too rough on my hair, unless totally saturated with conditioner.
    BBB.
    Going cone free.
    Oil Shampoo.
    Finger combing.
WO. Leaves my hair very dry and tangly.

    Want to try:
    Silk pillowcases
    Hairforks
    Damp bunning
    Mister bottles!

LHC advice that works for me:
    -CO washing
    -SMT treatments
-Oiling (my hair particularly likes coconut oil)
    -S&Ding
    -Wearing hair up
    -Clarifying
    -Washing less frequently
    -Henna
    -Castor oil
-ACV/citric acid rinses (saved my hair in London!)
    -Catnip rinses

    LHC advice that didn't work:
-Avoiding 'cones and sulfates (my hair doesn't really seem to have an opinion on either one; I didn't find that I experienced any change in the condition of my hair from avoiding them)
-Sleep cap (inevitably falls off during the night, made hair get greasy faster)
-BBBing (this worked for me a few times, but it seemed to be too much for my slightly wavy hairtype. My waves look best with minimal combing/brushing)
    -Baking soda/ACV washing (too drying!)
-Mineral oil (seemed to dry my hair out in the long term)

So far no bad advice. My hair likes coconut oil my shampoo and care methods.

    Worked:
    Oils
    BBB
    Wide too comb
    Shampoo bars

    Didn't work:
Rooibos tea (increased growth rate, but I'm pretty sure it's the cause of my shedding)
    Stretching washes
    CO (nasty feeling hair)

    On the fence:
Neelibhringadi (just started using, but it stinks, and it's a pain to wash out.)
I'd like to try a silk pillowcase, eventually.

I'm between 1b and 2a (my hair is still adjusting to shampoo bars, so it's been extra greasy and slightly weighed down lately), M, and ii/iii. I was a iii before my shed.

    Oh great thread idea (^(oo)^)v

LHC advice that works best for me:
    1. CO-washing - best.hair.EVER.
    2. fingercombing
    3. silk pillow covers
    4. stretching washes
    5. blow drying on cool
    6. ascorbic/citric acid rinses

LHC advice that didn't work for me:
    1. 'cone free anything . . . CONES FOREVERRRRR!!! \(^(oo)^)/
    2. sleep braiding/bunning - breakage, eep!
    3. oiling - messy, made my hair look stringy
    4. leave-ins - also made my hair look stringy
    5. CWC - didn't make any difference compared to regular S&C washes
    6. air drying - meh. where did my shine go? ( ' (oo) ' )
    7. combing - too much work
    8. BBB - causes static
    I'm a little piggy! (^(oo)^)v

    Best:
    - Tangle Teezer (brushing only when hair is soaked in conditioner) and fingercombing
    - ACV rinses for hair and skin (also ACV as facial toner)
    - CO
    - wearing hair up more often
    - spin pins
    - plopping
    - Feye's self trimming methods
    - argan oil for skin (not hair!)
    - eating Kelp supplements (love of my life)

    Worst
    - Monistat and castor oil for growth (totally messed up my scalp)
    - any kind of oil on hair (my hair is too fine for that)

A lot of great advice and only two bad. TLHC rules

    Works:
    Cassia
    Mineral Oil
    Tangle Teezer! <3
    CO washes
    Coconut oil
    My BBB
Rooibos to increase growth rate. I'm just lazy and don't apply it as often as I should.
    Flexi-8s

    Doesn't:
Protein, hello super dry, tangly hair!
Honey, also causes really dry tangly hair
Castor oil scalp treatments, makes me shed like crazy.
Oil shampoo, it caused major split ends, and overall annoying to get right.

Ditto on that for my experience, spidermom. Baking soda I will use to clean my combs, etc. and not for my hair.

Coconut oil has been a blessed boon.

I love this--just two pages in, and not a single tip has appeared only in the "works" or "doesn't work" categories

    For me, the best advice:

    - Minimal handling
    - Updos
    - Stretching washes
    - CO with occasional clarifying BS/lemon rinse wash
    - I got some good Indian herb recipes from the eponymous article
    - Feye's self-trim
    - Don't chop it all off just because the ends look a little thin

    Worst advice:
    - Not much. I tend to avoid product trends and super-growth potions (MSM, monistat, mineral oil, etc.)
