I think it's because you are on an ipad and it's such a different technology to work with than a computer to set up profiles and such here. Have you tried Photobucket? I find it the easiest to use and it has an app available for ipad/iphone.
In the app for Photobucket you can resize photos easy and then you hit the menu button and select "copy image URL" and you are good to go.

In the profile pic it asks for image URL which I kept trying to copy and paste all different ways and each time it tells me invalid file or image too large or blah blah blah freakin blah . I give up I can't take it anymore lol
