My hair is moderately thick and I've used Speert combs for years. I also have the Maria detangler comb offered by the GM folks (probably called by a different name now. It is all of 5 inches long, no handle, and nice, wide gaps for detangling,. Have also used a generic shower comb from Sally's Beauty supply with great results.

The secret to a great comb is HOW you use it to detangle. If you know how detangle properly (and there IS a proper way to do it!), then you'll have more success with your comb of choice.

Resurrecting this thread because I'm searching for a great wide tooth comb! What does everyone use these days that they love?

Wide triangular teeth with lots of space between them. The tooth shape pushes apart the sections as the comb travels down the length.

Ooh, never thought about that! I'll have to take this into consideration when crafting combs

I have a super detangler rake comb from Hairsense. I don't usually like combs, but I love this one.

I like my Hairsense comb too. Bakelite is a very nice material. It is easy to work and it works well. But I've recognized room for improvement for me in practice.

This is the comb I currently use:

I would prefer a wooden comb, but this is MUCH sturdier and doesn't break on me like my previous ones! It's from a company called revair (for reverse air, I have their blowdryer too—it's expensive, but worth it for my curly hair to gently straighten without ripping my strands out!).

It's more of a long-tooth comb than it is wide; the company worked with a stylist called Ladosha Wright to design the comb (it's called the wright comb in her honour) and it takes inspiration from the long teeth of the afro pick, which itself was invented by Dr Willie Morrow, a pioneer in afro haircare in the 60s & 70s, after he encountered the traditional combs used all over Africa for millennia.

The long teeth means it can deal with thick and dense sections of hair, unlike many short-toothed wide-tooth combs, and the tine are close enough together to give a thorough detangle (I can seriously go in after this comb with a fine-tooth comb on small sections if I wish) while still being spaced far enough to not cause damage. There's a very fine seam around the outer edge of the comb that has not given me any issues, but I suppose could be sanded down if so desired.

I always use this comb in the shower, and I hold it by the head (not the handle) and it is very sturdy and has never slipped out of my hand, even when covered in conditioner. I definitely have seen reduced breakage since adopting the use of this comb, and it's extremely easy to dehair and clean.

Can you tell it's my favourite?
