My wide tooth wood comb is on my "if I could only have 3" list.

Re: To brush or not to brush
I finger comb to detangle when my hair is pretty much dry, primarily use my wide-toothed horn comb between washes, and use my BBB at night after oiling and to smooth updos. I voted for the first 3 options.
To be honest, I don't have any problems with gentle brushing with a hair friendly brush, as long as the hair is dry and not tangled. Sometimes only a brush will give that smooth look.
Of course curlies might not use a brush at all, ever.

Re: To brush or not to brush
I use my fingers in the shower when my hair is wet, a wide toothed comb when damp to remove tangles (then air-dry - I never use a hair-dryer) and once fully dry, I use a paddle brush. My hair is happy. Long ago I used a BBB and it shredded my scalp and hair. Never again.

Re: To brush or not to brush
I use both combs and brushes: BBB on my scalp, a Denman brush on dry hair and a wide tooth comb on wet hair.

Re: To brush or not to brush
I brush twice daily wit a very soft bristled brush but not a BBB. I found the BBB did not seem to be very effective at brushing through the thickness at the top. While brushing though if there is a tangle I then use my fingers to genltly detangle.

Re: To brush or not to brush
I only use a wide toothed comb, occasionally a brush when my hair is greasy and I don't want to look it too stringy when putting it up.
I don't like boar bristle brushes, they are too harsh for my scalp.

I use a wide tooth comb to distribute my conditioner in the shower. Once out, I only use my fingers. I find I have fewer frizzies and my hair is less tangled than when I used a brush.

I use a variety of combs- one wide tooth one, one medium tooth and one fine tooth (which I am trying to cut back on).

Re: To brush or not to brush
I finger-comb while it's damp to get out the major tangles, and then I use my wide-toothed wooden comb after it's dry. I use a Goody brush that's made for fine hair whenever I need to pull my hair back for styling.
